Okay, so, I was messing around with this fantasy football thing, right? And I stumbled upon something called a “linear draft.” At first, I was like, “What the heck is that?” But I decided to figure it out. So here’s how I did it.
Getting Started

First off, I needed to get the lowdown on my league. You know, the usual stuff. I checked out the scoring system, which thankfully, was just a simple standard setup. Nothing too crazy for a newbie like me. I did some digging online, reading articles and watching videos to get a basic understanding of how drafts work.
Figuring Out the Draft Order
Next up was figuring out this whole “linear draft” thing. Turns out, it’s a pretty straightforward way of picking players. Basically, we just go in a straight line, from the first pick to the last, and then back again. No fancy snake draft stuff here. It’s like, whoever gets the first pick in the first round, gets the last pick in the second round, and so on. So, I made a note of the draft order, which was determined randomly by the system, just like we all agreed upon.
Practice Makes Perfect
Before the actual draft, I wanted to get some practice in. I found this cool mock draft tool online. I used it a few times, to see how the whole linear draft thing works in action. It was super helpful to see how the picks played out and what kind of team I could build. The tool I found was called “Draft Champion” from Fantasy Life and it was pretty user-friendly. I could even customize the settings to match my league’s rules.
Draft Day!
Finally, the big day arrived – draft day! I was a bit nervous, but also excited. I logged into the draft room, and we all got ready to pick our players. Since I was picking, let’s say, 5th in the first round, that means I picked the 5th player overall. When the first round ended, I picked 6th on the way back in the second round. Then, back to 5th in the third. It was easy to keep track of. During the draft, I paid attention to who was getting picked and tried to make smart choices based on the players available and the needs of my team.
Making My Picks
With each pick, I tried to balance my team. Like, I didn’t want all quarterbacks or all wide receivers. I made sure to grab some running backs, a tight end, and even a kicker and defense. I kept an eye on the other teams’ picks too, just to see what positions they were focusing on. I followed my strategy that I kind of developed during my mock draft practices, but I also stayed flexible and adapted to how the draft was going.
Post-Draft

After the draft was over, I took a look at my team. Not too shabby, if I do say so myself. I felt pretty good about the players I managed to snag. Of course, there’s always room for improvement, but overall, I was happy with how it turned out. I reviewed my team’s strengths and weaknesses and started thinking about potential trades or waiver wire pickups to improve my roster.
Final Thoughts
So, that’s my story of figuring out what a linear draft is in fantasy football. It was a fun little adventure, and I learned a lot along the way. I think I’m starting to get the hang of this fantasy football thing. Who knows, maybe I’ll even win my league this year! But more importantly, I had fun and learned a new way to enjoy football. That’s it folks!
