Alright, so I wanted to figure out how to spell “tennis racket”. Sounds simple, right? But you never know, sometimes these things can be trickier than they seem. So I started off just thinking about it. “Tennis” is easy enough, I know that one. But “racket”? That could be spelled a few different ways.
First, I tried sounding it out in my head. “Rack-et”. Okay, so it starts with an “r”, no doubt about that. Then “a” for the “ah” sound. “C” for the “ck” sound. “K” for that same sound again. Then “e”, and finally “t”. Putting it all together, I got “r-a-c-k-e-t”.

But something about that just didn’t look quite right. I mean, it could be “racquet” with a “que” at the end. Or maybe even “racquette” with two “t”s. I needed to be sure. So here’s what I did:
- Tried it in a sentence: I wrote down, “I need a new tennis racket.” Looked at “racket” there on the screen. Still not 100% sure.
- Googled that spelling: I typed in “r-a-c-k-e-t” into the search bar. Sure enough, it popped up with suggestions. And guess what? It was there! “Racket” with just one “k”.
- Double-checked with a dictionary: Just to be extra sure, I looked it up in an online dictionary. Yep, there it was, plain as day: “racket”.
So, what did I learn?
Well, “tennis racket” is spelled t-e-n-n-i-s r-a-c-k-e-t. Seemed like a simple thing at the start. But it’s funny how you can doubt yourself sometimes. I am glad I took the time to check it out and make sure I had it right. I should do this with more words.
