Okay, so I was browsing the internet the other day, and I stumbled upon this question: who is the lightest NFL player? It got me thinking, and I decided to do a little digging of my own.
My Research Process
I started by searching on the web. I used simple search terms at first.

Then I found some interesting stuff. It turns out that finding the lightest player depends on whether you’re talking about the modern NFL or way back when.
- Old-School Lightweights:Apparently, back in the day, there was this guy named Jack “Soupy” Shapiro. Supposedly, he played for the Staten Island Stapletons back in 1929. And get this – the record books say he was only 5’1″ and weighed in at a whopping 119 pounds! That’s tiny, even for a regular person, let alone a football player.
What I Concluded
So, based on what I could find, it looks like Jack “Soupy” Shapiro takes the cake as the lightest NFL player, at least from before the NFL merger. I mean, 119 pounds? That’s crazy light!
This whole search was actually pretty fun. I mean, you wouldn’t think that size would that big of * is cool history, and interesting detail.
