Okay, so I’ve always been a huge NFL fan, and I love getting crafty. I figured, why not combine the two? So, I decided to try my hand at drawing NFL team logos. It seemed daunting at first, but it turned out to be pretty fun!
Getting Started
First things first, I needed some supplies. Nothing fancy, just:

- Paper – Just regular printer paper worked fine for me.
- Pencils – A couple of different ones, for sketching and darker lines.
- Eraser – Gotta fix those inevitable mistakes!
- Colored pencils or markers – To make the logos pop.
- Reference images– I pull the images out of google.
The Process
I picked a few of my favorite team logos to start with – some easier, some more challenging. I realized pretty quickly that breaking the logos down into basic shapes was the way to go.
For example, let’s say I’m drawing the New England Patriots logo. I’d start with a rough outline of the whole thing, mostly a kind of pointed oval shape. Then, I’d see a triangle for the hat, and some curved lines for the face. I lightly sketched those in, not worrying too much about getting it perfect at first.
Once I had the basic shapes down, I started refining the lines. This is where the eraser came in handy! I erased the guidelines and made the shapes look more like the actual logo. I constantly looked back and forth between my drawing and the reference image.
After the outline was solid, I grabbed my colored pencils. Using my phone as a guide again, I started shading and filling in the colors. It was important to layer the colors, going from light to dark, to get the right shades. I really press down hard with a color pencil, using a white color pencil to blend, or just be super careful and take my time.
Practice Makes Perfect
My first few attempts weren’t masterpieces, let’s be real. Some looked a little wonky, the colors were off, or the proportions were weird. But I kept at it. Each time I drew a logo, I got a little better at spotting the shapes and getting the colors right.

The key, I found, was to not be afraid to mess up. That’s what the eraser is for! It’s all about practice and getting a feel for the shapes and details of each logo.
Now, I can whip up a pretty decent-looking NFL logo whenever I feel like it. It’s a fun little hobby, and it’s cool to see my skills improve over time. Plus, my friends are always impressed when I doodle their favorite team’s logo. Give it a shot—it’s not as hard as you think!
