Okay, so the other day I was watching a tennis match and got into this random thought: how tall is a tennis ball, actually? I mean, we see them all the time, but I’d never really stopped to measure one.
My Little Experiment
First, I grabbed a few tennis balls from my garage. They were kinda old and used, but hey, that’s what I had! Then I needed something to measure with. I found a ruler. Perfect!

I lined up the first ball next to the ruler. It looked to be a bit more than 2.5 inches, maybe 2.6? Hard to tell exactly with my eyes. So,I measured the second ball,I tried to be super precise, holding the ruler steady and all that. It was somewhere in the same ballpark, around 2.6 inches. The last ball was nearly the same.
- First ball: About 2.6 inches
- Second ball: Roughly 2.6 inches
- Third ball:Nearly 2.6 inches
What I Found Out
After my little experiment, I felt I should find some information from * I found some “official” info. Turns out, there are rules about this stuff!
The all say a tennis ball should be between 2.57 and 2.70 inches tall. That’s like 6.54 to 6.86 centimeters.
So, my beat-up old tennis balls were pretty close to the official size!It will be better if have a new one,but I don’t want to buy it.
Anyway, that was my mini-adventure in measuring tennis balls. Not exactly rocket science, but it satisfied my curiosity!
