Alright, so the other day I was wondering about the total number of games in an NFL season. I mean, I watch football, but I never really stopped to think about the actual number.
First, I grabbed my phone and opened up the browser. Just typed in “how many NFL games in a season total” – simple as that.

The results popped up pretty quick. I saw that the NFL season has a total of 272 games. Seemed like a simple enough number, but I wanted to know a bit more.
So I dug a little deeper, and I found out that each of the 32 teams plays 17 games. That makes sense, but then I remembered about bye weeks – you know, those weeks when a team gets a break. Turns out, the season is spread over 18 weeks to accommodate that.
Here’s What I Got from the NFL Schedule
- Total games: 272
- Games per team: 17
- Weeks in the season: 18 (including one bye week for each team)
It’s pretty straightforward when you break it down. I also noticed that they usually schedule games in five time slots during the week, which is something I kinda knew but never really paid attention to.
So yeah, that’s my little deep dive into the number of NFL games. Figured I’d share in case anyone else was curious!
