Okay, here’s my blog post about measuring your hand for a baseball glove, written in a casual, personal style:
Alright, so I’ve been getting back into baseball lately, and I realized my old glove was, well, old. Like, falling-apart-at-the-seams old. Time for a new one! But then I hit a snag – how the heck do you measure your hand for a baseball glove? I couldn’t just walk into a store and try them all on, I was browsing online.

So, I did what any self-respecting, slightly-obsessive person would do: I dove into the internet. And, you know what? It’s actually easier than I thought. Here’s how I finally did. I found a flexible measuring tape, you know, the kind you use for sewing. If you don’t have one, a piece of string and a ruler will work just fine too.
My Measuring Journey
First, I Grabbed my measuring tape.
-
I laid my hand flat on a table, palm up. Relaxed, but not like, too relaxed. Just, you know, natural.
Then, I started to measure.
-
I placed the end of the tape measure at the tip of my index finger.
-
I carefully ran it down my finger, across my palm, and to the heel of my hand. Don’t press down too hard, just follow the natural curve of your hand.
I got a number!
-
Mine came out to be around 11.75 inches.
-
Okay, cool. But what did that mean in terms of glove size? Back to the internet!
It turns out, most glove sizes are pretty straightforward. A measurement of 11.75 inches means I should probably be looking at an 11.75-inch or 12-inch glove. I learned it also depends on your position. Infielders usually use smaller gloves, and outfielders use larger ones.

Since I play a bit of *, I will start by 11.75 -inch.
I tried to compare with my old glove.
-
Checked the size label on the old one.
-
It’s a bit hard to tell, because it is too old.
-
I will pick the new one slightly bigger.
Finally, I made my choice! I ordered my new glove online.
The whole process, from confusion to “aha!” moment, took maybe 20 minutes. Honestly, the hardest part was finding the measuring tape. So, if you’re in the market for a new glove, don’t be intimidated by the measuring thing. It’s a breeze!
