Okay, so I’ve been meaning to get a better handle on different punching techniques, you know, for fitness and just generally feeling more badass. So, I dove into the world of “types of punches” today, and here’s how it went down.
My Punching Journey
First, I started with some basic Googling – “types of punches boxing,” “martial arts punches,” stuff like that. I wanted a good overview, not just jumping into random stuff.

Then I moved to watching some videos. It’s one thing to read about a jab, it’s another to actually see it, right? I focused on videos that broke down the form, step-by-step. No fancy stuff, just clear instructions.
Next up, the fun part (and the sweaty part!): I tried them out myself! I don’t have a punching bag, sadly, so I just practiced in the air. I started slow, really paying attention to my body.
- Jab: I felt like this was the most basic one, so I spent a lot of time on it. Straight out, quick, snap it back.
- Cross: This one involved more of my body, twisting at the waist. I realized I needed to keep my other hand up to protect my face – rookie mistake!
- Hook: This was tricky! I kept wanting to swing my whole arm, but I learned it’s more about the rotation of your body.
- Uppercut: I imagined I was punching someone under the chin (in a friendly, imaginary way, of course!). It felt powerful, but I also felt like I could easily lose my balance.
After a while, my arms started to ache, but in a good way. I felt way more energized, even though shadow boxing is a workout!
My Punching Result
I definitely didn’t become a punching pro in one day, but I feel like I have a much better understanding of the basics. I plan to keep practicing, maybe even find a class or a bag to hit. It’s a fun way to get some exercise and, yeah, feel a little more powerful.
It is important for me to keep learning.
