Okay, so I was super curious about how fast those NASCAR cars actually go. I mean, we see them on TV, and they look insanely quick, but what are the real numbers?
First, I started to dig around a bit. I needed to get a handle on what kind of speeds are typical.

My Research Begins
I started to search some general info.
Figuring Out the Top Speeds
I needed more specific. And that’s where it got a little tricky. Because, you know, it’s not like they have a speedometer that everyone can just check!
- Superspeedways: I had to use some records of the tracks, that they can get up to and even over 200 mph.
- Intermediate Tracks: These are a bit smaller, so the speeds are lower, usually in the 160-180 mph range.
- Short Tracks: Finally, short tracks mean even lower speeds, maybe topping out around 120-140 mph.
Then I thought that these are professional drivers on closed courses. It’s all about pushing the limits in a (relatively) controlled environment.
