Okay, so I’ve been seeing a lot of chatter online about whether or not people are still watching the NFL as much. Seems like a good thing to dig into, so I decided to do just that. Here’s what I did and what I found.
Started with a Basic Search
First, I just went to my go-to search engine and typed in “is NFL viewership down”. Pretty straightforward, right? I wanted to get a general sense of what the conversation was like out there.

Sifting Through the Results
The search results were a mixed bag, honestly. Lots of articles, some from major sports news sites, some from smaller blogs. I clicked on a few that looked promising, ones with recent dates and headlines that seemed relevant.
I read through a lot of them.
Looking for Actual Numbers
Of course, opinions are one thing, but I wanted hard data. I started looking for articles that cited actual viewership numbers, ratings, anything like that. It took some digging, because a lot of places just talked about the numbers without actually showing them.
Comparing Different Seasons
Once I found some decent data, I wanted to see how things compared over time. Was this year’s viewership lower than last year’s? What about five years ago? I looked for charts or tables that showed trends over multiple seasons.
Checking Multiple Sources
It’s always good to get info from more than one place, so I made sure to check multiple sources. Different networks, different analysts, just to get a well-rounded view. I didn’t want to rely on just one perspective.

- Checked new articles and sorted by date.
- Finded old articles and sorted by date.
Trying to Find the “Why”
Finally, I wasn’t just interested in if viewership was down, but also why. Were there specific reasons people were tuning out? I looked for articles that discussed potential factors, like controversies, competing entertainment, changing viewing habits, stuff like * were a few comments like protests, quality of play, etc.
Putting It All Together
After all that digging, I felt like I had a pretty good handle on the situation. It wasn’t just a simple “yes” or “no” answer, of course. There are always a lot of factors at play. But I definitely got a better understanding of the trends and the possible reasons behind them.
It is a hard work.
