In 2018, the UFC rankings were all the talk, I tell ya. A lot of fighters moved up and down, like when you shake a sack of potatoes, some big ones rise, some fall. It ain’t too different with UFC rankings either. Now, they decide these rankings by looking at how well fighters do inside the octagon, that big cage they fight in. Every punch, kick, and takedown matters in these rankings.
Back in 2018, you had some mighty big names in the rankings. Heavyweights like Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier were throwin’ their weight around. That Stipe, he was the champ for a good while, but Cormier, he came in and shook things up. Then there’s Francis Ngannou, with those big ol’ hands, knocking folks out left and right. It was like a storm, you didn’t know when it was gonna hit, but you sure knew it was gonna be big!

UFC Lightweight Rankings
Now, in the lightweight division, you had some fireworks, too. One fella, Kevin Lee, he really made a name for himself that year. He was fightin’ like a man possessed, and folks took notice. The rankings moved him up quick. Khabib Nurmagomedov, though, he stayed the man on top. No one could take that title from him in 2018. He was wrestling folks down like they were nothing, holding ’em down and making it look easy.
There were others, too. Dustin Poirier was making his way up the rankings with them heavy hands of his. And Conor McGregor, well, he didn’t have the best 2018, but he was always in the conversation. Can’t have UFC rankings without mentioning Conor at least once, ya know?

UFC Heavyweight Rankings
Heavyweight rankings were wild in 2018. Daniel Cormier went from being a light heavyweight champ to a heavyweight champ. He was throwin’ folks around like it was nothin’. That big ol’ Derrick Lewis got up there in the rankings too, but Cormier just put him down when they fought. And as I said, Francis Ngannou was knockin’ people out left and right, but in 2018, he had a few rough fights, too. He had a tough time with Stipe, lost that one, but you just knew he was comin’ back stronger.
Other Divisions

-
The welterweights, oh boy, that was another stacked division. Tyron Woodley, he was the champ, strong as an ox, and he stayed up there at the top for a while.
-
The middleweight division had Robert Whittaker, and he wasn’t lettin’ anyone take his spot, no sir. He defended that belt like his life depended on it.
Even in the women’s divisions, you had some strong contenders. Amanda Nunes was the name everyone was talkin’ about. She was taking out folks left and right, and she stayed on top of the rankings, unbeatable like.

Now, these rankings were important for the fighters ’cause it let them know where they stood and who they might fight next. Fans, too, they loved seein’ who was movin’ up and who was fallin’. But let me tell ya, these rankings weren’t set in stone. One big fight could change everything, just like that. By the end of 2018, folks were already lookin’ ahead to 2019, wonderin’ who was gonna rise and who was gonna fall. That’s how it goes with UFC rankings. Just when you think you got it figured out, someone new comes along and changes the whole thing.
