Well, let me tell ya somethin’ about this Chris Davis fella and his baseball cards. I ain’t no expert, mind you, but I know a thing or two about things bein’ valuable, like a good hen or a sturdy plow. This Chris Davis, he played baseball, hit the ball real hard sometimes, struck out a whole bunch too, from what I hear. Folks like to collect his picture on them little cards, baseball cards they call ’em.
Now, I reckon some of these cards are worth more than others. Just like some eggs are bigger, some apples are sweeter. It all depends, they say. This Chris Davis, he played different spots on the field, first base, third base, even out in right field. Big fella he was, 6 foot 4, they say, and weighed a ton, 255 pounds! Born in ’86, down in Longview. He even got himself a wife and three young’uns, a boy named Colt and two girls. That don’t make his cards worth more, but it’s somethin’ to know, I guess.

They keep all sorts of numbers ’bout these fellas, how many times they hit the ball, how many times they miss. They call it “batting statistics” or somethin’ fancy like that. Major League, Minor League, they got numbers for everythin’. I reckon the better the numbers, the more the card is worth. But that ain’t always the case, see? Sometimes, it’s just ’cause a card is old, or hard to find, like a four-leaf clover.
- They got these companies, like Topps, they make the cards.
- And some cards are special, shiny or somethin’.
- And then there’s the price. Lordy, the prices!
I heard tell of a fella named Mickey Mantle, his card sold for millions! Twelve million, six hundred thousand dollars! Can you imagine? For a little piece of cardboard with a fella’s picture on it. Now, I ain’t sayin’ Chris Davis’ cards are worth that much, not by a long shot. But some might be worth a pretty penny, depends on which one you got, I reckon.
Some folks, they go crazy for these things. They buy ’em, trade ’em, keep ’em in special cases like they was precious jewels. Me? I’d rather have a good milk cow, but to each their own, I always say. If you got a Chris Davis card lyin’ around, might be worth lookin’ into. You never know, you might have a little treasure on your hands. Just don’t go thinkin’ you gonna get rich off it, unless you got that Mickey Mantle fella’s card, and I bet you don’t.
So, that’s the story on Chris Davis and his baseball cards, as best as I can tell it. He played ball, they made cards of him, some folks collect ’em. It’s a whole world out there, folks makin’ money off things you wouldn’t even think twice about. Like I said, I ain’t no expert, just tellin’ it like I see it. You want more, you go ask them city folk with their fancy books and computers. They know everything, or so they think.
