Alright, so y’all wanna know what’s the deal with them Fox cameras at the NASCAR races, huh? Well, lemme tell ya, it ain’t always been smooth sailing. Them cameras, they’re supposed to show us all the racin’ action, make it exciting like. But sometimes, things go a bit wonky.
First off, they got all sorts of cameras, big ones, small ones, all shapes and sizes. You can bring ‘em in yourself, long as you ain’t got no big ol’ bag or them tripod thingamajigs. They wanna let folks see the cars up close, get a good look at what’s happening. Sounds good, right? Well, mostly.
Now, they started usin’ this ground camera a while back. Supposed to give us a different view, somethin’ we ain’t seen before. And for a while, it was kinda neat. But then, things started gettin’ a little…clownish, you could say. Reminds me of that time they had that Digger thing for the cameras in the track and the pre-race show. Them FOX and TNT fellas, they were somethin’ else back then. FOX did their thing from 2007 to 2014, you know. Always tryin’ to be fancy.
- One time, the dang cable camera broke right in the middle of the Coca-Cola 600. Just quit workin’! Can you believe it? There we were, watchin’ the race, and boom, no more fancy camera view.
- And then there’s Dale Jr., he’s a good ol’ boy, knows his racin’. He even said somethin’ about them zoomin’ in too much. Said they needed to stop it, let us see the whole dang race, not just some close-up of a tire or somethin’. Makes sense to me.
They even tried puttin’ a camera in the driver’s eye, so we could see what they see. Sounded fancy, but I dunno if it was all that great. Sometimes, simpler is better, ya know? Just show us the cars racin’!
And wouldn’t you know it, after Jeff Gordon left the booth in 2021—he went off to be some big shot at Hendrick Motorsports—they went and canceled that NASCAR Race Hub show. Just like that. Folks liked that show, gave ‘em somethin’ to watch durin’ the week. But nope, gone. Makes you wonder what them TV folks are thinkin’ sometimes.
So, what happened to the fox in the track ground camera? Well, nothin’ really happened to a fox. It’s just talk about the Fox network cameras. Sometimes they work good, sometimes they break, sometimes they’re just plain silly. It’s all part of the show, I guess. But I tell ya, sometimes I just wanna watch the cars go fast, without all the fancy camera tricks and whatnot. Just good ol’ fashioned racin’, that’s what I like.
Anyways, that’s the way I see it. They try to make things better, but sometimes they just make it more complicated. Just give us the race, that’s all we need!
