Well, I tell you what, this here picture thing ’bout football, it ain’t as simple as you might think. Them youngsters with their fancy phones and cameras, they always talkin’ ’bout this “ratio” and that “ratio.” I say, a picture’s a picture, ain’t it?
But, I reckon if you wanna get it right, like them fellers on TV do, you gotta pay attention to some things. Seems like they got these long pictures, and these kinda square ones, and some in between. Confusin’, I tell ya!

I heard some fellers talkin’, and they said somethin’ ’bout 16:9. That’s like, if you take a stick and cut it into sixteen pieces, and then take another stick the same length and cut it into nine pieces… well, you get the idea. One’s longer than the other, see? They say this 16:9 thing is good for them wide TVs and such.
Then there’s this other one, 1.5:1. That’s more like, if you have one and a half apples and I have one apple. You got more, but not a whole lot more. This one, they say it’s for them football fields. You know, the long green part where them boys run around.
- So, if you’re takin’ a picture of the whole field, you want that 1.5:1 thingamajig. Makes the field look right, not all squished up or stretched out.
- And if you’re takin’ a picture of just one feller runnin’ with the ball, maybe that 16:9 thing is better. Shows more of the action around him.
But don’t you go frettin’ too much ’bout it. Most times, you just point and shoot, and it turns out alright. Them fancy cameras, they do a lot of the thinkin’ for ya. Still, it’s good to know, I guess.
I saw a picture the other day, them Argentinians celebratin’ with that shiny ball trophy. Messi, they call him. Little feller, but fast as a rabbit. That picture, it was kinda long, so I reckon it was that 16:9 deal. Showed all them happy faces real good.
And them fellas takin’ pictures of the stadium, they gotta use that 1.5:1. Otherwise, the stadium would look all wonky, like it’s gonna tip over. Nobody wants a wonky picture, now do they?

I tell you what, back in my day, we didn’t have all this ratio business. We just took the picture and that was that. Sometimes it was good, sometimes it was bad. But we didn’t have no fancy numbers to worry about. Life was simpler then, I reckon.
But times change, and you gotta keep up. So, if you want them football pictures to look real purdy, you gotta remember them ratios. 16:9 for the action, 1.5:1 for the field. Got it? Good. Now go on and take some pictures!
Oh, and one more thing. They got these fellers sellin’ pictures online, millions of ‘em, they say. Pictures of everything, football, cats, trees, you name it. If you need a picture, you can probably find it there. But I still say, takin’ your own is more fun.
And remember, it don’t matter if you got the fanciest camera or just an old one, what matters is that you capture the moment, the excitement, the feel of the game. And if you get the ratio right, well, that’s just the icing on the cake, ain’t it?
So go out there, have fun, and take some good football pictures. And don’t worry too much about the technical stuff, just capture the spirit of the game, and you’ll be alright. That’s what really matters in the end.
