Well, let me tell ya about this here MPSSAA baseball thing. Sounds fancy, huh? But it’s just high school ball, like the kids playin’ down the street, only a bit more serious-like.
See, they got this championship thing, the 2024 MPSSAA Baseball State Championships. They play it at this Regency Furniture Stadium place in Waldorf. Heard it costs ten dollars to get in, which ain’t cheap, let me tell ya. They played it on May 24th and 25th.

Now, I don’t know much about all them rules, but I hear tell it’s like any other baseball game. They got these things called “innings,” and each team gets a turn to bat and a turn to field. The battin’ team tries to hit the ball and run around the bases, and the fieldin’ team tries to get ’em out. Simple as that, I reckon.
Heard some folks talkin’ about somethin’ called “sabermetrics.” Sounds like a bunch of mumbo jumbo to me, but apparently, it’s got somethin’ to do with numbers and figurin’ out how good the players are. They use it to predict who’s gonna win and all that. Back in my day, we just watched the game and saw who was good, but I guess times have changed.
This MPSSAA thing, it’s a big deal for these high school kids. They play hard, and they want to win. I saw some game where this Old Mill Patriots team beat the Walt Whitman Vikings right at the end. Folks were jumpin’ and hollerin’, it was somethin’ else. That win got them into the championship game, I believe.
- MPSSAA Baseball is for high school kids in Maryland.
- They have a state championship every year.
- This year, 2024, the championship was in Waldorf and cost $10 to watch.
- There are these things called “innings” in baseball.
- Some smart folks use “sabermetrics” to understand the game better.
They got these websites, too, where you can follow along. MaxPreps, they call it. They got all the scores and brackets and such. Brackets, that’s like a roadmap to see who’s playin’ who. You can even watch highlights, little bits of the best plays. Technology, huh? It’s somethin’.
Maryland, that’s where all this is happenin’. They got a major league team too, the Baltimore Orioles. But these high school kids, they dream of playin’ for them someday, I bet. Gotta start somewhere, right?

This MPSSAA baseball, it’s been around for a while, I guess. They say the program started way back in 1893. That’s a long, long time ago. And now, they’re even part of somethin’ called the NCAA Division I Big Ten Conference. Sounds important. This whole thing started in 2015 for them, bein’ part of the Big Ten.
So, that’s the gist of it, this MPSSAA baseball. Kids playin’ ball, tryin’ to win, folks cheerin’ ’em on. Just good, clean fun, even if I don’t understand all the fancy talk and numbers. It’s about the game, ain’t it? And that’s somethin’ I can always appreciate.
If you wanna know more you can always watch some of the games on the computer or maybe even go in person if you have some extra money. It is always better in person, the feeling of a crowd is always something special. It can get pretty loud though, so if you don’t like loudness then I recommend watching it on the computer.
And there are photos on these websites too. Lots of pictures of the players and the games. You can see them young fellas in action, swingin’ bats and throwin’ balls. It’s somethin’ to see, all right.
