Alright, listen up, y’all! Gonna tell ya ’bout this here… uh… ULM baseball schedule. Yep, that’s what they call it. Sounds fancy, huh? Don’t know what all them letters mean, but it’s somethin’ ’bout them young’uns hittin’ balls with sticks.
So, this ULM, they got a whole bunch of teams. Boys and girls, runnin’ around, playin’ all sorts of games. They got this… “varsity” they call it. Means the best of the best, I reckon. Fifteen of ’em! Six for the boys, nine for the girls. They play all sorts of stuff, like… football, and… well, baseball, that’s what we’re here for, ain’t it? And they ain’t just playin’ around, no sirree! They in this big ol’ group, the NCAA. Division One, they say. Sounds important, like the big leagues for them college kids.

And they got this other group too, the Sun Belt Conference. Guess that’s who they play against mostly. Sounds hot, that Sun Belt. Makes ya sweat just thinkin’ about it. But these young fellers, they don’t mind. They out there swingin’ bats and catchin’ balls, no matter how hot it gets. Reminds me of my Elmer, bless his soul, used to play a bit of baseball back in his day. Not fancy like these college boys, but he could swing a bat, he could.
Now, where was I? Oh yeah, this here schedule. It’s important, see? Tells ya when them boys are playin’. So you can go watch, if you’re into that kinda thing. Me? I like watchin’ the birds better, but my grandson, he’s all about this baseball stuff. Keeps yellin’ at the TV, somethin’ ‘bout “homeruns” and “strikeouts.” Don’t understand half of it, but makes him happy, so that’s good enough for me.
This ULM team, they play at a place… they call it a “complex.” Sounds fancy, right? Like a big ol’ building, I imagine. But it’s really just a baseball field, a real nice one though. Baggett Stadium, they call it. Named after some fella, Robin Baggett. Guess he was a good player back in the day. All-CCAA catcher, they say. And in some kinda “Hall of Fame.” Musta been somethin’ special.
- Game 1: March 10th against… uh… some team. Don’t rightly remember the name.
- Game 2: March 15th, that’s a Friday, ain’t it? They playin’ again. Another team, different name. Hard to keep track, all these names.
- Game 3: March 20th, another game, Lord have mercy. They play a lot these boys. Gotta be tiring. They play a team. I heard they’re good. But our boys are better, I bet. My grandson says so, and he knows about these things.
- Game 4: March 25th, another game. They’re playing the same team from Game 1 again I think. I don’t know why they do that. Seems like a waste of time to me. But what do I know? I’m just an old woman.
- Game 5: April 1st, playing on April Fool’s Day. Maybe they’ll play some tricks on the other team. That’d be fun to watch. I bet they’ll try to steal bases or somethin’. Those young fellas are full of tricks, I tell ya.
And they keep playin’ all through April and May, even into June, I think. Too many games to remember, I tell ya. You gotta look at the ULM baseball schedule yourself if you wanna know all the dates and times. They probably got it online somewhere, or in the newspaper, if they still print them things. My grandson, he looks it up on that… “inter-net” thingamajig. Says it’s got all the information you could ever want. Don’t trust it myself, but the young’uns seem to like it.
So, that’s the gist of it, folks. ULM baseball. College kids playin’ a game. NCAA, Sun Belt, Baggett Stadium… lotta fancy words, but it all boils down to hittin’ a ball and runnin’ around. If you like that kinda thing, go on and check out the schedule. Cheer on them boys, they need all the help they can get. And if you see my grandson there, tell him his grandma says hello. And tell him to stop yellin’ at the TV so much, it gives me a headache.

Now, I gotta go make some supper. All this talk about baseball makes me hungry. Maybe I’ll make some fried chicken. Elmer always liked that. And who knows, maybe I’ll even turn on the game later, see what them ULM boys are up to. Just gotta remember to turn the sound down low, so my head don’t start throbbin’. Alright, y’all take care now, and go Warhawks! Or whatever it is they say. I ain’t quite sure.
