Alright, alright, let’s talk about them shiny things baseball fellas wear around their necks. You know, the thingamajigs that dangle when they’re runnin’ and hittin’. What do you call ’em? Necklaces, yeah, that’s it. So, what are the necklaces that baseball players wear?
Well, lemme tell ya, it ain’t just one kind. These boys, they like all sorts of stuff. Some wear ’em ’cause they think it helps ’em play better, some ’cause it looks good, and some, well, who knows why young’uns do half the things they do?

First off, you got them cross necklaces. A lot of them boys, they’re big on their faith, you know? Prayin’ before the game, thankin’ the good Lord after a win. So, they wear a cross, sometimes plain, sometimes fancy. I saw one the other day, looked like three little baseball bats all crossed up. Clever, ain’t it? Shows they love God and baseball all at once.
- Cross Necklaces: Showin’ their faith, keepin’ ’em safe, or maybe just remindin’ ’em to be good. Lots of different kinds, some plain, some with sparkly stuff.
Then there’s these chain necklaces. Just plain chains, some thick, some thin, some gold, some silver. I reckon they just like the way they look. Shiny things, you know, catch the light. Makes ’em feel fancy, I guess. Like when I used to wear my good beads to the county fair. Same kinda thing, I reckon.
- Chain Necklaces: Just for looks, mostly. Shiny and dangly. Some big, some small. Boys like shiny things, just like magpies.
And then you got these…what do you call ’em…performance necklaces? Yeah, that’s it. Them fancy ones that are supposed to make ’em stronger or faster or somethin’. I don’t know about all that. Seems like a lot of hooey to me. But hey, if they think it helps, more power to ’em. One fella told me it’s got magnets or somethin’. Magnets? In a necklace? Go figure.
These performance necklaces, they come in all sorts of colors and styles. Some got little rubber bands, some got little metal things. They all say they do somethin’ different. One’s supposed to help with balance, one’s supposed to help with energy. Like I said, hooey. But the boys, they wear ’em. Maybe it’s just in their heads, you know? Like when you wear a lucky shirt. Makes you feel better, even if it don’t actually do nothin’.
- Performance Necklaces: Supposed to make ’em play better. I ain’t so sure about that, but they think it works, so who am I to judge? Lots of different kinds, all promisin’ somethin’.
Some fellas, they wear necklaces with their numbers on ’em. Or their initials. Or their kids’ names. Just somethin’ personal, you know? To remind ’em why they’re out there playin’. For their family, for their team, for themselves. That’s nice, I think. Keeps ’em grounded.

- Personalized Necklaces: Numbers, initials, names. Somethin’ special to them. Reminds ’em what’s important.
And then, you know, sometimes they just wear ’em ’cause everyone else is. Monkey see, monkey do, that’s what my old pappy used to say. If the star player’s wearin’ a necklace, then all the young’uns wanna wear one too. That’s just how it is. Fashion, they call it. I call it silly, but what do I know? I’m just an old woman.
So, there you have it. All sorts of necklaces them baseball players wear. Some for God, some for show, some for luck, some for who knows what. But they wear ’em, that’s for sure. And as long as they’re hittin’ home runs and catchin’ fly balls, I reckon nobody cares too much what’s hangin’ around their necks. They could wear a horseshoe if they wanted, long as they win the game!
In short, necklaces for baseball players are about style, faith, maybe a bit of superstition, and a whole lot of followin’ the crowd. But mostly, they just like the way it looks, plain and simple. They want to look good when they are on TV. Just like when I put on my Sunday best for church, you know?
And that’s the story about those necklaces, hope it makes sense to ya, I tried my best to explain it like I see it. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go make some supper.
