Well, honey, you wanna know how many folks died in that NASCAR thing? That car racin’ where they go round and round real fast? It’s a dangerous business, that’s for sure. I heard a lot of stories. Lots of crashes, lots of sad news.
So, I hear tell, a whole bunch of people died in NASCAR. More than a hundred, they say. A lot of them were drivers, the fellas drivin’ those speedy cars. Some were just watchin’, you know, spectators. They say 128 people died. That’s a big number, ain’t it? And 108 of them was drivers. Imagine that, 108 drivers gone, just like that.

Now, most of them drivers, they died right there on the track. Accidents, you see. Cars goin’ so fast, somethin’ goes wrong, and bam! That’s it. They say 92 drivers died that way. That’s a lot, right? That’s most of the deaths, 72%, they say. I don’t know much about numbers, but that sounds like a lot to me.
I heard about this one fella, name of Petty. Young fella, too. Back in 2000, year 2000, you remember that? He was practicin’ for a big race, the Busch 200. Up in New Hampshire, that’s a place far away. Anyway, his car, somethin’ got stuck. The throttle, they call it. Made the car go real fast, couldn’t stop. He went right into the wall. Killed him right then and there. Poor boy, bless his heart.
And there was this other time, 2002, I think it was. At a place called Talladega. They call it the Aaron’s 312. Big crash, biggest one they ever had, they say. Lots of cars, all piled up. Like 31 cars, all smashed together. Just awful. That’s a lot of cars crashed, I reckon. It’s a wonder more people didn’t get hurt.
They say some drivers, they died not from crashin’, but from bein’ sick. Heart attacks and such. I heard that’s happened to 16 of them. Can you believe that? Just drivin’ along, and their heart gives out. Sad, ain’t it?
So, in all those NASCAR races, the big ones they show on TV, they say 32 drivers died. 32 in all those years! That’s a lot of lives lost, just for racin’ cars.

And in the biggest kind of NASCAR racin’, you know the top one, the fancy one, they started that in 1948, a long time ago. They say at least 28 drivers have died in that one. 28! Just in that one kind of racin’. That is just terrible.
- 128 people died in NASCAR, they say.
- 108 of them was drivers.
- 92 drivers died in crashes on the track.
- 16 drivers died from being sick.
- 32 drivers died in all the big NASCAR races.
- 28 drivers at least, in the top NASCAR, since way back in 1948.
You know, they got this place, Daytona, that’s where they race a lot. I heard 14 drivers died just at that one place. 14! Just in Daytona! That place must be cursed or somethin’.
It’s a dangerous game, this NASCAR. They go so fast, and one little thing goes wrong, and it’s all over. I don’t know why they do it, but they do. It’s excitin’ to watch, I guess, but it sure is dangerous.
They try to make it safer, I hear. They got new walls and things, supposed to help if a car crashes. But it’s still dangerous. You can’t take all the danger out of somethin’ like that, I reckon. Too much speed, too many cars, too much can go wrong.
So, yeah, a lot of people died in NASCAR. Too many, if you ask me. But that’s the way it is, I guess. They know the risks, these drivers. They know what can happen. They still do it though. Must be somethin’ about it, somethin’ that gets in your blood. I don’t know. I just know it’s sad, all those lives lost.

Well, that’s all I know about that. It’s a sad story, but it’s true. Just remember to be careful out there, whatever you’re doin’. Life’s precious, you know? Don’t waste it. And if you’re gonna drive fast, well, be careful, you hear? Don’t end up like one of them poor fellas in NASCAR.
