So, I was chilling on my couch today, flipping through channels, and I noticed something weird – there’s only one NFL game on TV. Usually, on Sundays, my TV is filled with football from morning till night, but today, it’s just one game. I got curious, so I started digging around to figure out what’s going on.
First, I grabbed my phone and started searching. I found out that the NFL made some deals with TV networks back in 2021. It seems like ESPN and ABC, both owned by Disney, got rights to air more games. This started in 2022, and they sometimes show games at the same time on these two networks. I guess they’re trying to spread the football love around.

- Checked the usual Sunday game schedule: Normally, CBS and Fox have the Sunday afternoon games, those regional ones.
- Scrolled through some sports news sites: Apparently, these deals are supposed to be good for 11 years. That’s a long time!
Then I remembered something about Mondays. Sometimes this season, there have been two games on Monday nights. That’s also part of this big 11-year deal the NFL made. It’s like they’re giving us a double dose of football to kick off the week.
I also read that since way back in 1998, CBS and Fox have been the go-to for those Sunday afternoon games. It’s a tradition! But things can get tricky when an early game goes into overtime, and you’re waiting for your local game to start. I’ve been there, it’s so annoying!
- Read some fan forums: People get pretty fired up when games run late and mess up the schedule.
- Noticed a pattern: Fox always has at least one late game because of the West Coast teams. Makes sense.
And get this, I saw that Christmas Day football is going to be a bit different this year. The games sound exciting, but it’s not the usual setup. I guess holidays mess with the schedule, too.
So, after all this digging, it seems like the reason there’s only one game on today is a mix of these new TV deals and the usual way things are scheduled. They’re trying new stuff, like those double Monday night games, and sometimes it just shakes out that there’s one game on a Sunday.
Honestly, it’s a bit of a bummer when you’re expecting a full day of football, but I guess it’s cool that they’re trying to get more games out there. Still, I’m hoping for a more packed schedule next Sunday. Fingers crossed!

What I learned today:
- New deals with ESPN and ABC mean more games spread out.
- Monday nights can have two games now.
- Sundays are still mostly CBS and Fox, but sometimes things get shifted around.
- Holidays like Christmas can also change the schedule.
That’s my little football investigation for the day. It wasn’t the Sunday I expected, but hey, I learned something new!
