Well, let me tell you somethin’ ’bout this De La Salle football team, ya know? They was on a real win streak, a long one, like nothin’ I ever seen. Folks was talkin’ ’bout it all over, even me, and I don’t know much ’bout football, ya hear?
Started way back, like in 1992. That’s a long time ago, I tell ya. My grandkids weren’t even born yet! This team, they just kept winnin’ and winnin’. Game after game, year after year. Folks started callin’ it a “streak,” a big ol’ win streak. Sounded fancy, but all it meant was they was good at winnin’ football games.

- 1992, that’s when it all began.
- Kept on winnin’ and winnin’
- Folks were amazed, they were.
Now, this coach, Bob Lad-o-something, he was the one leadin’ them boys. He started coachin’ there in ’79, I think. Been there a while, you know? He musta known somethin’ ’bout football, gettin’ them boys to win so much. They say he was a good man, worked them boys hard, but fair, ya know?
They played all sorts of teams, big ones, small ones, didn’t matter. De La Salle, they just kept on winnin’. 151 games, that’s what they say. One hundred and fifty-one! Can you believe that? That’s a whole lotta football games, more than I can count on my fingers and toes, that’s for sure.
People started writin’ books and makin’ movies ’bout this win streak. Imagine that! A movie ’bout a bunch of boys playin’ football. Musta been somethin’ special, that streak. Folks from all over was comin’ to see ’em play, cheerin’ them on.
This streak went on for years, you hear? All the way to 2004. That’s like, what, 12 years? More than a decade of winnin’. They beat some record, some other school’s record, by a whole lot. Like, more’n double, I think. These boys were somethin’ else, I tell ya.
But then, you know, everything gotta end sometime. They went up to Seattle, to play some team called Bellevue. And, well, they lost. Yep, lost the game. 39 to 20, I heard. That was the end of the streak, the big ol’ 151-game win streak.

Folks were sad, you know? But hey, that’s football. Can’t win ’em all, I always say. Even the best teams lose sometimes. But that streak, that 151-game streak, that’s somethin’ people gonna remember for a long, long time. It’s in the history books now, they tell me.
Even before that Bellevue game, some other team, Pittsburg High, I think, they beat De La Salle way back when. Folks was talkin’ ’bout how maybe they could do it again, but that didn’t happen for a long while. Pittsburg, they was gonna play ’em again for some championship, but that’s a whole ‘nother story, ya know?
Now, some folks compare this streak to the pros, like that Peyton Mannin’ fella and his team, the Colts. They won a bunch of games in a row too, but nothin’ like De La Salle. De La Salle’s streak, that was somethin’ special, somethin’ you don’t see every day. High school boys, playin’ their hearts out, winnin’ and winnin’. It makes you think about hard work and stickin’ together, you know?
So, that’s the story, as best as I can tell it. De La Salle, a football team, a long win streak, and then, it was over. But like I said, folks will remember it. It’s a part of football history now, that 151-game streak. And that’s somethin’ to be proud of, even if it did end eventually.
