Well, let me tell ya somethin’ about these NBA teams and their plays. You know, like when them fellas run around the court, lookin’ all serious and sweaty? Yeah, those plays.
Do NBA teams run plays? You bet your bottom dollar they do! It ain’t just a bunch of fellas runnin’ around like chickens with their heads cut off, no sirree. Though sometimes, it sure looks like it, ha!
I heard some folks sayin’ only a small bit, like maybe 20%, of the plays are that pick and roll thing. You know, where one fella sets a screen and the other one scoots around him? Seems kinda low to me, but what do I know? I ain’t no fancy coach or nothin’. But I seen plenty of games, and them fellas are always doin’ somethin’ that looks planned.
They got these things called “half court sets,” see? Almost every time they get down to that other end of the court, they start runnin’ one of them. It’s like they got a little dance they gotta do, or somethin’. But then, sometimes, things go all wonky. One fella misses his spot, another one fumbles the ball… and it all turns into a big ol’ mess. They start improvisin’, I guess you could say. Like when you’re tryin’ to bake a cake and you forget the sugar, so you gotta throw in some honey instead. It ain’t the same, but it might still taste alright.
- They got these fellas, all different sizes and shapes, playin’ different spots. Point guards, shootin’ guards, small forwards, power forwards, and centers. Sounds like a whole lotta work to me, keepin’ track of all them fellas.
- And they practice all the time, too. Runnin’ up and down the court, day in and day out. Just like my grandson practicin’ his piano. Gotta keep at it if you wanna get good, that’s what I always say.
Now, how many plays do they run in a game? That’s a tough one. Some say maybe five or six a quarter, but it ain’t always the same. Sometimes they run the same play a bunch of times, sometimes they try somethin’ new. It all depends, I reckon. But they definitely ain’t just makin’ it up as they go along, most of the time.
And you know, you can watch these games all over the world. On the TV, on the internet… it’s a big deal, this basketball stuff. They got games on all the time, all over the place. Makes you wonder how them fellas keep up with it all. Travelin’ all over, playin’ all them games… must be tirin’.
So, to answer your question, yeah, NBA teams definitely run plays. Lots of ’em, I’d say. Even if it doesn’t always look like it. And they practice ’em, and they change ’em up, and sometimes they mess ’em up. But that’s part of the fun, ain’t it? You never know what’s gonna happen, and that’s what keeps you watchin’. Just like life, I guess. You plan and you plan, but sometimes things just go their own way.

One more thing, these fellas get paid a whole heap of money for runnin’ around and throwin’ that ball. More money than I ever seen in my life, that’s for sure. But I guess if you’re good at somethin’, you deserve to get paid for it. And them fellas are good, real good. Even when they’re messin’ up, they’re still better than most folks. So, yeah, they earn their keep, I reckon.
