Now, let me tell ya ’bout tennis and them fast serves. You know, back in my day, folks ain’t care ’bout no tennis ball speed. We just played to have fun. But now, it’s all ’bout who can hit that ball faster than a chicken runnin’ from the butcher. Turns out, folks got some real firepower in their serves these days.
There was this fella, Sam Groth, an Aussie fella, who hit a tennis serve so fast, folks couldn’t even see it. It was in 2012, over in South Korea, and they say he clocked in at 163.7 mph. That’s like faster than my old truck down the hill! Now, I don’t know ’bout you, but that’s somethin’ mighty impressive. I reckon if I tried to hit the ball that fast, I’d probably throw my back out.

Now, it ain’t just Sam with them crazy fast serves. There’s Serena Williams, and she’s a tough one too. In 2013, she hit a serve at 128.6 mph. That’s fast, but she says she hit some even faster ones before, but they went to the sky. Guess even the best can’t always keep it in the lines, huh? Still, 128.6 mph, I’d say that’s faster than I could ever dream of.
Then you got this young fella, Nick Kyrgios. Back in 2019 at Wimbledon, he hit a serve at 143 mph! Now, that’s quick, but he was up against Rafael Nadal, and even though his serve was fast, he just couldn’t get past Nadal. Shows you, fast serves ain’t everything in tennis. Gotta have more than just speed, I reckon.
Oh, and there’s another big name, John Isner. Now this fella’s tall as a barn and got the strength of a bull. In one of his matches, he hit a serve at 155 mph. That’s fast enough to blow the hat right off your head! I guess bein’ that tall gives him a good angle on the ball, makin’ it fly even faster.

But wait, there’s more young folks comin’ up, like this American boy Ben Shelton. They say he’s one of the new ones to watch for fast serves. Now, I ain’t seen him play, but folks who know tennis better than me say he’s one to keep an eye on. Seems like there’s always someone younger, faster, and stronger comin’ up, huh?
So what does all this fast servin’ tell ya? Well, tennis has changed a lot, and now them players, they ain’t just playin’ for fun. They’re playin’ to win, and winnin’ means servin’ the ball as fast as a rooster on a hot tin roof! But, like I said, it ain’t just ’bout speed. You can have the fastest serve, but if it don’t land right, it don’t mean nothin’. Gotta have skill, placement, and a bit of luck too.
If you ever get a chance to watch them pros, keep your eyes open, ’cause if you blink, you might miss one of them fast serves. Me, I’ll stick to watchin’ it on TV. My knees ain’t what they used to be, but I still love seein’ them fast serves, even if I gotta sit down with my tea and cookies to enjoy it.

So there ya have it, the world of tennis serves is faster than ever. And who knows, maybe next year there’ll be someone even faster than ol’ Sam Groth. Only time will tell, but one thing’s for sure, tennis players today sure know how to serve up some heat!
