Well, now let me tell ya about this man named Bret Bielema. He’s a big fella, stands mighty tall, about 6 feet 4 inches (that’s 193 cm for those that like the fancy numbers). Folks notice him right away, bein’ that tall, no doubt. Ya know, people always wanna know how tall these big-time football coaches are, and Bret sure don’t disappoint. He’s like one of them big ol’ trees in the middle of the field, standin’ proud and firm.
Bret, he’s been around football his whole life. Born on January 13, 1970, that makes him about 54 years old now, and I’ll tell ya, he’s still got plenty of fire in him. He’s from a small town called Prophetstown in Illinois, but don’t let that fool ya—he’s been everywhere when it comes to football. He first started out coachin’ in college, ya know, over at Wisconsin. Now, they say he did real well there, got that team workin’ like a well-oiled machine. After a bit, he packed his bags and moved on down to Arkansas. He coached them Razorbacks for a while, from 2013 to 2017.

Now, you might be wonderin’ how he did in Arkansas. Well, it wasn’t all smooth, but I tell ya, he sure gave it his best. His record was 29 wins and 34 losses. Some folks didn’t think that was enough, but ya know, it’s tough in the Southeastern Conference, the SEC, where the football is serious business. Still, Bret, he stood tall, just like his height, and kept pushin’ through, no matter what.
But, things change, ya know. In 2017, he moved on and found himself workin’ for the New England Patriots in the NFL. Now that’s a big deal, ain’t it? He was helpin’ out the team under that famous coach Bill Belichick. Worked with ‘em for a couple of seasons, and let me tell ya, he even got a Super Bowl ring for his time there. The Patriots won the Super Bowl in 2018, beatin’ the Los Angeles Rams. Not too bad for a fella from a small town, right?
After that, Bret came back to college football, takin’ on a new challenge. He became the head coach of the Illinois Fighting Illini in December 2020. Now, they call him the 26th head coach in the program’s history. He’s been buildin’ somethin’ strong there, just like he did back in his earlier days. Right now, he’s been coachin’ Illinois for a few seasons, got a record of about 23 wins and 20 losses. Some folks are even sayin’ he might get ‘em to another bowl game soon. He’s sure got a knack for turnin’ things around.

Oh, and I can’t forget about his family. Bret, he’s married to Jennifer Hielsberg. They got hitched back in 2012, in Madison, Wisconsin. Together they’ve got two sweet daughters, Briella and Brexli. Family’s real important to Bret, even with all the coachin’ and travelin’ he does. He always makes time for them. He’s a big fella, but he’s got an even bigger heart, that’s for sure.
So, that’s Bret Bielema for ya. A big, tall coach with a lot of passion for the game. Whether he’s on the sidelines in Illinois or workin’ hard with his family, he’s always standin’ tall—both in height and in spirit. Folks around here sure look up to him, in more ways than one.
