Let me tell ya, back in 2017, the Brooklyn Nets didn’t have an easy time, no sir. That season, they only won 20 games and lost a whopping 62. They finished last in the Eastern Conference, couldn’t do much better in the Atlantic Division either, placing 5th. That was a tough year, for sure. But hey, they were still workin’ on building the team. Ya gotta remember, rebuilding takes time, just like fixin’ a fence after a storm.
Now, lemme talk ’bout who was on the roster that year. They had Spencer Dinwiddie at point guard. You might know him, he’s real quick with the ball, good at dishin’ out passes. Then there was Joe Harris, shootin’ guard, who could sink a three-pointer pretty good. At small forward, they had DeMarre Carroll, a solid player who knew how to hold his own on defense.

They also had this young fella named Jarrett Allen. He was picked 22nd in the draft by the Nets. Big guy, good at blockin’ shots and getting rebounds. He didn’t play much at first, but boy, he sure had potential. And he went on to be one of the big names in the league, let me tell ya. Folks were excited to see what he could do.
Oh, and I can’t forget Jeremy Lin. Yep, he was part of the team too, but he didn’t get to play much ‘cause he got injured. That’s always a shame when a player gets hurt like that. People had high hopes for him, but the injury bug bit him bad that year.
Now, if you’re wonderin’ who coached ‘em that year, well, it was Kenny Atkinson. He was tryin’ to shape up the team, gettin’ the younger players to play hard. But with such a new squad, it was tough to win games. They struggled on defense and didn’t score enough to keep up with the other teams.

But even with all them losses, there was hope. You know, like plantin’ seeds in the ground and waitin’ for ’em to grow. They had some young talent, and while they weren’t winnin’ much, people could see they was building somethin’ for the future. Sometimes ya gotta go through the hard times before things get better. And sure enough, after a few more years, the Nets started gettin’ better. That’s how it goes in sports, just like life.
- Spencer Dinwiddie: Point guard, playmaker, real good at dribblin’ and passin’.
- Joe Harris: Shoot guard, known for hittin’ them three-pointers.
- DeMarre Carroll: Small forward, good on defense, tough player.
- Jarrett Allen: New young center, great at blockin’ shots and grabbin’ rebounds.
One thing’s for sure, the 2017 Nets might not have been the best team, but they laid down the groundwork. They worked hard, and though they lost more than they won, that team had a lotta heart. And sometimes, heart’s all ya need to start turnin’ things around. That’s what happened for them later, but in 2017, it was all about patience and hard work. It’s like waitin’ for the crops to grow—takes time, but the harvest comes eventually.
