Okay, so I was watching some boxing matches the other day, and I started wondering about the rules around elbows. I mean, they’re right there, and they seem like they could be pretty effective, but you never really see boxers throwing elbow strikes. So I did a little digging to figure out what the deal is.
First, I checked out a bunch of online forums and boxing websites. I wanted to see what the general consensus was among people who are into boxing. There were a lot of different opinions, but most people seemed to agree that using your elbow to hit someone is a big no-no in boxing.

My Boxing Practice
- Setting Up: I started by setting up in my usual spot. Cleared out some space, put on my gloves, you know, the regular pre-boxing routine.
- Shadow Boxing: I started with some basic shadow boxing. I did some jabs, some crosses, and just generally tried to loosen up. I felt my muscles start to get warm, that was a good signal to start doing more.
- The Elbow Question: Here’s where I started to feel unsure. I tried bending my arm at different angles, mimicking some elbow strikes, but it felt weird. I didn’t know when I can use it. It seemed like bending was okay, but actually hitting? I wasn’t sure.
- Trying It Out: I did a few experimental elbow motions, very carefully. I didn’t want to hurt myself. It felt a bit awkward, but I could see how it might be useful in a close-quarters fight, not in a boxing match, of course. I tried it again and again.
- Conclusion: After trying it out, I still wasn’t sure what was allowed. I felt like I needed to do more research to really understand the rules.
I feel that adding elbows would totally change the game. It might even make boxing more interesting. But I guess it would make it a totally different sport. I think, boxing’s cool as it is, with its own special rules and moves. Maybe elbows are better left for other fighting styles.
So, I think I’ve got a better handle on the elbow situation in boxing now. I still feel like there’s more to learn, but this was a good start. It’s all about understanding the rules and respecting the sport. I’m going to keep practicing and learning, and maybe one day I’ll have all the answers. Maybe not, but it’s the journey that counts, right?
