Now, let me tell ya about this young fella, Chase Hungate. He sure made a name for himself with them University of Virginia (UVA) Cavaliers baseball team. Born way back on November 23, 2002, over in Abingdon, Virginia, he sure didn’t take long to start showing what he could do. His hometown, small as it might be, must be mighty proud of him now. Chase, bless his heart, started playin’ ball at a young age, and before ya knew it, he was one of the key players for UVA’s baseball squad.
Now, if ya been followin’ college baseball lately, you might’ve heard about UVA’s baseball team. They’ve been doin’ mighty good these past few years. Just in 2024, they made it all the way to the College World Series again! And let me tell ya, that’s no small feat. They been there seven times now, with a national championship back in 2015. Mighty impressive for such a fine team. UVA’s coach, Brian O’Connor, has been runnin’ the show for years, and he sure knows how to pick his players.

Chase Hungate, well, he was one of the important ones in the bullpen. If y’all don’t know what a bullpen is, it’s where they keep the pitchers who come in after the starters, you know, to finish the game off. Chase was a right-handed relief pitcher, and boy, did he do his job right! He sure wasn’t a slouch. In fact, during the 2024 season, he pitched five whole shutout innings in one game, striking out five batters and only givin’ up two hits. That’s a mighty fine record, I’d say. Ain’t no wonder folks started takin’ notice of him.
But I reckon that’s not the end of it. In the world of college baseball, sometimes things change faster than you can blink an eye. After a great run at UVA, ol’ Chase made a decision to transfer out. Yep, he left the Cavaliers and packed his bags for Mississippi State University, which is mighty well known for its baseball program too. They been on a hot streak, and maybe ol’ Chase thought it was the right time to join ’em and make his mark down there in the SEC.
Now, I reckon some folks might’ve been surprised, but I don’t think it was a bad decision at all. Mississippi State’s been on a roll, winning them NCAA baseball titles like it’s nobody’s business. They got a strong team, and I guess Chase figured he could help ’em keep that streak alive. He sure didn’t waste no time makin’ a big splash once he joined them Bulldogs. I imagine the folks down there in Mississippi are as excited as can be to have him on their team.
As for UVA, well, I’m sure they’ll miss ol’ Chase, but them Cavaliers still got a strong team. They’ve been to the College World Series more times than I can count, and with Coach O’Connor leading them, they’ll be just fine. But Chase’s time there sure will go down in the books. Ain’t no doubt about that.
Now, I don’t know all the ins and outs of why he transferred, but I reckon it’s just one of them things in sports. Sometimes, you gotta follow your heart and chase after them big opportunities. And Chase, well, he’s doin’ just that.

If you ever watched him pitch, you’d see a fella who’s got the skills to go far. I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes on to do big things in the big leagues someday. And when he does, I’ll sure be sittin’ here, tellin’ folks, “I knew him when he was just a boy from Abingdon, pitchin’ for UVA.”
So, that’s the story of Chase Hungate, a fella from Virginia who did good, real good. He left a mark on the UVA baseball team, and now he’s off to try his luck down in Mississippi. I wish him the best, and I reckon we’ll all be watchin’ to see what he does next.
