Alright, so I’ve been getting a ton of questions lately about NBA jerseys and how they fit. Do they run big? Do they run small? What size should you get? Well, I decided to do a little experiment of my own to figure this whole thing out. You know, for the sake of science and all that.
First things first, I grabbed one of my regular t-shirts that fits me just right, and I measured the chest size. For me, it came out to about 40 inches. I figured this would be my baseline to compare against the NBA jerseys.

Next up, I ordered a couple of different NBA jerseys online. I went with a Small and a Medium, just to see the difference. I also made sure to get an “Authentic” jersey, cause I wanted to see how the ones the pros wear actually fit.
The Experiment Begins
When the jerseys arrived, I was pretty stoked. They looked legit, with all the fancy embroidery and stuff. First, I tried on the Small. Now, according to the size chart, a Small is supposed to fit chests between 40 and 41 inches. It was definitely snug, I’m not gonna lie. I mean, it fit, but it was tighter than I usually like. If I wanted to wear a hoodie underneath or something, no way that was happening.
Then, I tried on the Medium. This one is supposed to be for chests between 40 and 44 inches. This one felt a lot better. It was still a bit fitted, being an “Authentic” jersey and all, but it had enough room to move around comfortably. I could definitely see myself wearing this to a game or just chilling at home.
Sizing It All Up
So, what did I learn from all this? Well, it seems like NBA jerseys, especially the Authentic ones, do run a bit large compared to regular t-shirts, especially if you want a slim fit like the pros. It’s kinda their style, I guess. They’re designed to be a bit roomier.
- Small: Good for a tight fit, especially if you’re right around that 40-inch chest mark.
- Medium: A good balance between fitted and comfortable. If you’re between 40-44 inches, this is probably your sweet spot.
- Large: This is where things start to get really roomy, especially if you’re on the smaller side. Size charts say 42-48 inches, so keep that in mind.
The Authentic jerseys are a whole other story. They’re made to be slim-fitting, just like the ones the players wear on the court. If you’re into that look, then you’ll probably be good with your usual size. But if you prefer a looser fit, like me, you might want to size up.

One last thing I noticed is that these jerseys are made with this Dri-FIT material. It’s supposed to keep you cool and dry, which is pretty neat. I didn’t exactly work up a sweat trying them on, but I can imagine it being helpful if you’re actually playing ball.
At the end of the day, it really comes down to personal preference. Hopefully, my little experiment here has helped you get a better idea of how these things fit. Now you can go out there and rock your favorite team’s jersey with confidence, whether you are just watching games or hooping it up on the court! Go get ’em!
