Alright, so you wanna know about this NBA and Thanksgiving thing, huh? Let me tell ya, it’s a bit of a head-scratcher. You see, these basketball fellas, they play on Christmas, they play on New Year’s, but Thanksgiving? Nope. Ain’t no games on Thanksgiving Day. Not anymore, at least.
Now, I heard tell that way back when, in 2008 to be exact, they had some games on Thanksgiving. But that was a long, long time ago. Seems like they stopped after that, and nobody really knows why. They just decided, “Nope, no more turkey day basketball.” It’s like some kinda secret rule they got, you know? An “untold rule,” they call it. For the past, what, 14 years? Not a single game on Thanksgiving. Just families eatin’ turkey and watchin’ football, I guess.

You got these Detroit Lions and the Dallas Cowboys, they play every Thanksgiving. Been doin’ it for ages. Lions started way back in 1934, and the Cowboys joined in 1966. They’re like the main course on Thanksgiving, and basketball just ain’t on the menu. It’s kinda funny when you think about it. Everybody else is playin’ games, but the NBA fellas are takin’ a break. Maybe they’re eatin’ too much turkey themselves, who knows?
I also heard somethin’ about a fella named Richards, back when there was a team in the Motor City, Detroit I think it was. He wanted folks to come watch, so he set up a game on Thanksgiving against the Chicago Bears. He even got it on the radio, 94 stations! But that was football, see? Not basketball. Basketball just ain’t got that Thanksgiving spirit, I reckon.
Now, if you’re lookin’ to watch basketball, you can watch it other times, you know? They got this thing called the “League Pass,” and you can watch all sorts of games on your TV or your phone or whatever. They even let you watch four games at once, which sounds like a lot of basketball to me. And they got somethin’ about “improved live data overlays,” which I don’t rightly understand, but it sounds fancy. They even let you try it for free for 7 days, which ain’t a bad deal, I suppose.
- No NBA games on Thanksgiving.
- Last time they played was in 2008.
- Football is the big thing on Thanksgiving, especially the Lions and Cowboys.
- You can watch NBA games other days with League Pass.
So, there you have it. No basketball on Thanksgiving. Just turkey, football, and maybe a little nap after all that eatin’. If you wanna watch basketball, you gotta wait ‘til another day. That’s just the way it is, and there ain’t nothin’ we can do about it. It’s been like this since, oh, maybe the 2011-2012 season or somethin’. Anyways, happy Thanksgiving, and don’t eat too much pie!
And remember, if you wanna watch them basketball games, they got that League Pass thingy. You can watch on your computer, your phone, whatever you got. They say you can watch four games at once, which sounds like a whole lotta jumpin’ and runnin’ to me. But hey, if that’s what you like, go for it. Just don’t expect to see it on Thanksgiving, that’s all.

So, to sum it all up, ain’t no NBA on Thanksgiving. It’s just one of them things. Like why the sky is blue or why my chickens keep gettin’ out of the yard. Some things just are, and you gotta accept it. Now go on and enjoy your Thanksgiving, and don’t worry about them basketball fellas. They’ll be back playin’ soon enough.
