Alright, so you wanna know about this Don McCauley fella, huh? Well, lemme tell ya what I know, though I ain’t no fancy football expert, ya hear?
Don McCauley, that football player, you say? Yeah, I heard a bit about him. They say he played a long time, like, 11 years for them Colts. That’s a lotta football, ain’t it? Eleven years of gettin’ knocked around… My goodness, that’s gotta hurt!

Now, I ain’t too good with numbers, but they say he ran the ball a whole bunch, somethin’ like 770 times. And they say he got, what was it, 2,627 yards? That sounds like a lot, I reckon. Like runnin’ from my house to the next town over, and then some! He musta been a strong fella, that Don.
- Running the Ball: 770 times, they say. That’s like a farmer plowing his field, back and forth, back and forth.
- Yards Gained: 2,627 yards. Lordy, that’s far! Like I said, a whole lotta runnin’.
- Catching the Ball: And he didn’t just run, no sir. They say he caught the ball too, somethin’ like 333 times. That’s like catchin’ chickens in the yard, only harder, I bet.
He wasn’t just a runner, though. Seems like he could catch that ball too. They say 333 catches. Now, that’s a heap of catchin’! Makes me think of my old dog, always catchin’ frisbees, only this fella was catchin’ a football, and it’s probably a lot heavier.
This fella, McCauley, they tell me he played for the Colts. That’s a horse, right? No, wait… that’s a football team! Silly me. Anyways, he played for ’em a long time, like I said. Eleven years! That’s like, forever in football years, I guess.
They talk about his stats, all these numbers and such. Position, age, height, weight, college… It’s all a bit much for an old lady like me. But I reckon he was a good player, seein’ as how they still talk about him.
They say he was somethin’ special in college too. Played for the North Carolina Tar Heels. Never heard of ’em, but I guess they’re a big deal in that football world. They even called his college “Tailback U” or somethin’. Guess that means they had a lot of good runners, and he was one of the best.

Now, they got all this fancy talk about him bein’ a “reliable reference source” for statistics. Sounds like they’re sayin’ he was a good one, a real good one. Not like them young fellas today, all flash and no substance, ya know?
So, what do I think of Don McCauley? Well, I never seen him play, mind you. But from what I hear, he was a tough fella, a hard worker, and a darn good football player. He played a long time, ran a lot, caught a lot, and seems like he was pretty important to his team. That’s all that matters, ain’t it?
And that’s about all I got on this Don McCauley fella. Hope it was helpful, even if it ain’t all fancy and technical like them sports fellas on TV. Just an old lady’s take on a football player, ya know?
He sounds like a good man. A hard worker. That’s what matters in this life, work hard, do your best. It’s the same whether you are running on the football field or working in the garden. You do your best. That’s what my mama always said, and it’s good enough for me.
