Alright, so you wanna know about that car racin’ thing, the NASCAR, right? And who’s startin’ first this Sunday? Well, lemme tell ya, it’s a bit of a mess, like tryin’ to catch chickens in the yard. They keep changin’ who’s in front!
I heard tell that fella, Martin Truex Jr., yeah, that’s the one, he was supposed to be startin’ first. They said he got the pole, that means he’s in the very front when they start. This was gonna be his last big race, you know, before he hangs up his drivin’ gloves. Poor fella, workin’ hard all them years.

- But then, I heard some other folks squawkin’ about another fella, William Byron. They said he got the pole too! Can ya believe it? Two fellas gettin’ the pole. It’s like havin’ two roosters in the henhouse, bound to be some trouble.
- And then, there’s this other time, up in Kansas, I think it was, another fella, Christopher Bell, he got the pole. All these fellas and their poles, hard to keep track of, I tell ya.
So, for this Sunday’s race, it sounds like it was supposed to be Martin Truex Jr. But things change faster than the weather ’round here. They said he got the pole in Phoenix, that’s where they’re racin’. He went real fast, they said, faster than a squirrel up a tree. But like I said, things change, maybe that William fella got it now. It’s all confusin’ to an old woman like me.
They talk about this “championship race,” sounds mighty important. Guess it’s the big one, the one where everyone wants to win. And that pole position, that’s a big deal. Startin’ in front means you got a better chance of winnin’, less traffic to fight through, like drivin’ on a clear country road instead of a busy highway. But anything can happen in a race, just like anything can happen when you’re plantin’ a garden. Sometimes the littlest sprout grows into the biggest plant, ya know?
This Martin fella, he’s been racin’ a long time, they said. He’s like an old mule, steady and reliable. But even old mules get tired, I guess. This is his last race as a full-timer. Means he won’t be racin’ every week no more. Maybe he’ll just sit back and watch, like I do when the young’uns try to chase the pigs. It’s entertainin’ to watch, but I ain’t gettin’ involved!
They got these fancy cars, go faster than anything I ever seen. Loud too, like a thunderclap right over your head. I reckon they burn a lot of gas, more than my old tractor uses in a whole year. But folks love watchin’ ‘em, just like they love watchin’ the county fair pig races. People like speed and excitement, I guess.
So, to answer your question, who got the pole for Sunday? Well, it sounds like it shoulda been Martin Truex Jr., but maybe this William Byron fella took it. Honestly, it’s hard to say for sure. Best thing to do is just watch the race and see who starts in front. That’s what I’d do, if I wasn’t busy tendin’ to my chickens and garden.

One thing’s for sure, though, these races are something else. All that speed and noise, it’s a lot for an old lady like me. But people seem to enjoy it, and that’s what matters, I guess. Just like some folks like sweet tea, and some folks like unsweetened. To each their own, I always say.
So, tune in on Sunday and you’ll see for yourself who’s leadin’ the pack. Don’t matter what this old woman says, seein’ is believin’. Just hope they all drive safe and don’t cause too much of a ruckus.
