Okay, so I’ve been playing baseball for a while now, and I’ve always struggled with getting my pants to fit right. They were always either too baggy or too tight, and it just felt awkward. So, I decided to do some digging and figure out what the deal was.
Figuring Out My Size
First things first, I needed to figure out my actual size. I’m not gonna lie, I usually just grabbed whatever looked about right off the rack. Turns out, that’s not the best approach. I got out a measuring tape and measured my waist and inseam.

- Waist: Measured around my natural waistline, just above my hips.
- Inseam: Measured from my crotch down to where I wanted the pants to end (more on that later).
Different Styles
Then, I realized there are different styles of baseball pants. Who knew? I found out there are mainly two.
- Traditional: that go all the way down to your ankles.
- Knicker: that stops right below your knee.
I’ve always worn the traditional ones, but I was curious about knickers. I always thought that is cool.
The Actual Try-On
Armed with my measurements and some style knowledge, I headed to the store. I grabbed a few different sizes and styles to try on.
I started with my usual size in the traditional style. Nope, still too baggy. I went down a size, and they were way too tight around the waist. Couldn’t even button them! After a few tries, I found a size that felt comfortable around my waist and gave me enough room to move.
Next, I paid attention to the length. For traditional pants, you want them to sit right around your ankles. I bent down like I was fielding a grounder, and yeah, the length felt right. They weren’t dragging on the ground, but they also weren’t riding up too high.

Then, I decided to be brave and try on the knicker style. It felt a little weird at first, being so used to the longer pants. But, I gotta say, I kinda liked them! They felt a bit more…freeing, I guess? I did some squats and lunges in the fitting room (looked like a total goof, I’m sure) to make sure they wouldn’t restrict my movement. They passed the test!
Making the Decision
So, after all that, I ended up buying both a pair of traditional pants and a pair of knickers. I figured I’d switch it up depending on how I felt. The traditional ones are great for sliding – more protection, you know? But the knickers are definitely more comfortable on those super-hot days. I wore that to play baseball last week!
The biggest takeaway for me was to actually try things on and pay attention to how they feel when I move. It’s not just about the size on the tag, it’s about how the pants work with your body when you’re playing.
