Alright, let’s talk about how many of them football fields fit in a mile. You know, like when you’re walkin’ and walkin’ and it just seems to go on forever? Well, a mile is a pretty long ways, that’s for sure.
Now, I ain’t no fancy mathematician or nothin’, but I heard some folks sayin’ that a football field, the American kind, you know, with the pointy ball, is about 100 yards long. 100 yards! That’s a lot of steps, even for a young fella.

And them smart folks also say that a mile is a whole bunch of yards, like 1760 of ’em. Yep, 1760 yards. Just imagine walkin’ that! My old legs would be achin’ for sure.
- So, if you got one of them football fields at 100 yards, and a mile is 1760 yards…
- Well, you just gotta figure out how many 100s go into 1760, right?
I reckon you could divide it, like them school teachers do. 1760 divided by 100. That comes out to be about… well, it’s more than 17, ain’t it? It’s 17 and a bit more. Let’s see…carry the one…yeah, it’s 17.6.
So, you could say it takes about 17 and a half football fields to make up a mile. That’s a whole lotta football fields! You could probably fit the whole town in there, with room to spare for the cows and chickens too.
Now, some other folks, they talk about them soccer fields, the ones where they kick the round ball. Them fields are different, you see. They’re longer, more like 105 meters, whatever a meter is. And a mile is like 1600 of them meters. So, it takes less of them soccer fields to make a mile. I heard tell it’s about 4 and a half laps around a soccer field to get to a mile. That’s a lot of runnin’, I tell ya.
But we’re talkin’ about American football fields here, right? The ones with the end zones and all that. So, yeah, about 17 and a half. Sometimes I hear folks sayin’ it’s closer to 18 football fields if you count the end zones too, them ten extra yards on each end. You know, where them fellas catch the ball and do a little dance? So yeah, 18 if you’re countin’ them end zones. Makes sense, I guess.

It’s kinda hard to wrap your head around, all these numbers and yards and miles. Back in my day, we just walked ’til we got where we needed to go. Didn’t matter how many football fields it was! But I guess it’s good to know these things. Makes you sound smart, like them city folk.
So, next time you’re watchin’ a football game, just remember, it takes a whole bunch of them fields to make up a mile. A whole bunch! And if you’re ever walkin’ a mile, you can picture yourself walkin’ across 18 football fields. Just keep puttin’ one foot in front of the other and you’ll get there eventually. Just like me gettin’ through this explanation! Hope it makes some sense to ya.
Anyway, that’s what I make of it. 17 and a half, or 18 if you count them end zones. That’s a lot of football, that’s for sure! And that’s a long way to walk, no matter how you slice it. Now, where did I put my glasses…?
