Okay, so today I wanted to kick back and watch some NFL Network, but I ran into this annoying issue where the picture wasn’t filling up my whole TV screen. I had these black bars on the sides. Super annoying, right?
First thing I did was check out the NFL banner at the bottom of the screen. That thing went all the way across like it should, so I figured it wasn’t my TV settings acting up.

I’m using the NFL Mobile app on my phone and also have it on my Roku box hooked up to the TV. Same issue on both. Black bars everywhere.
- Tried messing with my TV settings: aspect ratio, screen size, all that stuff. No dice.
- Rebooted my phone, the Roku, even my router just for kicks. Still nothing.
- Cleared the cache on both the app and the Roku. Nope, still got those bars.
- Double-checked for any updates for the NFL app or my devices’ software. Everything was up-to-date.
Then, I went online to see if anyone else was having this problem. I saw some folks talking about similar issues with Firestick, Apple TV, and even YouTube TV. Seemed like I wasn’t the only one scratching my head.
Some people suggested resetting the app. I tried that too, didn’t work. I uninstalled and reinstalled the app on both my phone and Roku. No change. Still got those black bars staring back at me.
I even tried moving my Roku closer to the router, thinking maybe it was a Wi-Fi speed issue. Nope, that wasn’t it either. The connection was strong, but the picture still wasn’t filling the screen.
After trying all this, I’m pretty much out of ideas. Guess I’ll have to reach out to NFL Network support or something. Maybe they’ve got a fix.

It’s just weird because all my other streaming apps work fine. It’s just the NFL Network that’s being a pain. If any of you guys have had this issue and found a solution, let me know in the comments. I’m all ears! It’s really a headache!
