Alright, guys, so I’ve been seeing this question pop up a lot online: “How high is the rim in the NBA?” And honestly, I used to wonder the same thing. So, I did what any curious person would do – I went down a rabbit hole and did some digging. I even tried to measure it myself… let’s just say it didn’t go as planned.
My DIY Measuring Attempt
First things first, I grabbed my trusty tape measure. My initial idea? I’d just stand on a ladder and measure it. Easy peasy, right? Nope.

- Problem #1: My ladder wasn’t nearly tall enough.
- Problem #2: Even if it was, holding a tape measure straight down while balancing on a ladder? Super sketchy. I almost fell, don’t recommend.
So, the ladder idea was a bust. Then I thought, “Maybe I can use a basketball and some string?” I figured I could tie the string to the ball, toss the ball over the rim, and then measure the string. Yeah, that didn’t work either. The ball kept getting stuck, the string tangled…it was a mess.
The Simple Answer (Finally!)
After my, uh, adventures in measurement, I decided to just look it up. Turns out, there are these things called “official rules” and “reliable sources.” Who knew? 😅
And the answer? Drumroll please… 10 feet! Yep, the official height of an NBA rim is 10 feet from the floor to the top of the rim. It’s been that way since, like, forever. And it’s the same for most professional and college leagues, too.
So, yeah, there you have it. All that effort, and the answer was just a quick search away. But hey, at least I got a good story out of it, and a newfound respect for people who can actually dunk!.
