Okay, so I’ve been playing tennis for a while now, and I always wondered about how long my tennis balls actually last. I mean, they seem to get flat pretty quickly, but I wasn’t really tracking it. So, I decided to do a little experiment.
My Tennis Ball Test
First, I bought a fresh can of balls – you know, that satisfying pop when you open them? That’s the best. I marked these as “Batch 1.”

Then, I just played. I played a few times a week, mostly casual matches with friends, nothing too intense. I made sure to use the same balls each time, and I kept them in their original can when I wasn’t playing. I figure that the container will make the balls last longer
- Week 1: Balls felt great! Super bouncy, lots of fuzz. No complaints.
- Week 2: Still pretty good, but I started to notice a little less bounce. Like, maybe 5% less? Hard to say.
- Week 3: Okay, definitely a difference. They were noticeably flatter, and I had to swing a bit harder to get the same power.
- Week 4: These balls were pretty much done. They felt dead, and it wasn’t as fun to play. Time for a new can!
Then I play some tennis ball with my friend who play tennis very often, they told me that my tennis ball last much longer than them because they are heavy hitters.I think I know why.
So, based on my super scientific experiment , it looks like tennis balls last for about 3 weeks of regular, casual play. Maybe less if you’re a really hard hitter or playing super competitive matches. It is also depend on different brand, some brand’s tennis ball last longer and some are not.
It’s not a huge deal to replace them, but it’s good to know. Now I can kind of anticipate when I’ll need a new can and avoid that “dead ball” feeling during a match!
