How many games in one NBA season
So, these NBA fellas, they play a lot of games. I heard it’s like 82 games in a regular season, yeah, 82! Can you believe it? That’s a whole heap of basketball. They start in, like, October, when the leaves are all turnin’ colors, and go all the way to April, when the flowers start poppin’ up. That’s a long time, right?
They play all these games all over the place. It’s not like our little bingo nights down at the community center. Nope, these guys are travelin’ all over. It takes almost half a year to play all them games. Ain’t nobody got time for that! Well, except for those NBA players, I guess.
Who do they play against in NBA
- They play teams in their own group, like, four times each.
- Then they got these other teams, not in their group, they play them four times too.
- And then there’s even more teams, and they play them three times.
- Finally, they got some teams they only play twice.
It’s all mixed up, like a big ol’ stew. It ain’t simple, I tell ya. They got like four games, or three, or two. But it all adds up to them 82 games. My head starts spinnin’ just thinkin’ about it!
That new NBA tournament thing
And now, they got this new thing, a tournament in the middle of it all. It’s like a special game in the middle of all them other games. They call it the In-Season Tournament. I don’t know much about it, but it sounds fancy.
They divide all the teams into these groups, like pickin’ teams for a schoolyard game. And then they play each other, and the best ones go on to play some more. It’s like a little mini-season inside the big season. They play this in, I think it’s December, yeah, when it’s cold and snowy out.
I heard they did this thing first time last year, 2023. They like to make changes and do new things. This NBA, always changin’ things up!
What happened some years ago in NBA
Now, there were a couple of years where things were a bit messed up. One time, back in 2011, going into 2012, they had some kind of lockout. I don’t know what that means, exactly, but it sounds like they locked everyone out of the games! So they didn’t play the full 82 that year.
Then, there was that whole sickness thing a few years back, in 2019 and 2020. That messed things up real bad. Everyone was stayin’ home, and they couldn’t play all them games. So those years, they didn’t play 82 either.
But usually, yeah, usually it’s them 82 games. Unless somethin’ crazy happens, like a lockout or everyone gettin’ sick. Then it’s all different. The world is a crazy place!
NBA history and all that
This NBA thing, it’s been around for a long time. I heard it started way back, like, in 1946 or something. That’s even before I was born! They used to call it somethin’ else, BAA or whatever. But then, later on, they just called it NBA.
And then, in the 70s, there was this other basketball thing, the ABA. And they all came together, like mixin’ batter for a cake. And now we just got the NBA. They just keep adding and changing things.
Some other stuff about NBA games
These NBA games, they’re a big deal. People watch them on TV, go see them in person, all that. It’s a whole thing. They got schedules and times, and everyone’s all excited about it.
And they play all year round, almost. Except for the summer, I guess. That’s when they take a break, I suppose. It’s too hot to be runnin’ around anyway. But then in October, they start all over again with them 82 games. It is a lot.
They also play in different cities. It ain’t just in one place. That’s what makes it a big deal. It’s like a traveling circus, but with basketballs. Those players must be tired all the time, running around like that, from city to city.
