Let’s talk about them football stadiums, the ones with the fancy roofs, you know, the domes! Folks been askin’, how many NFL teams got themselves a roof over their heads? Well, let me tell ya, it ain’t as many as you might think.
Now, they got all sorts of stadiums in the NFL, big ones, small ones, some with roofs, some without. But we’re here to talk about them dome stadiums, right? So, as of right now, and I mean right now, there are 8 NFL teams that play in domed stadiums. Yeah, you heard that right, just eight!

- First off, you got the Houston Texans. They play in NRG Stadium. That’s a dome, a real fancy one too, I hear.
- Then there’s the Indianapolis Colts. They got themselves Lucas Oil Field. Another one with a roof, keeps them fans dry and warm, I reckon.
- Over in Las Vegas, the Raiders play in Allegiant Stadium. That’s a new one, all shiny and modern. And yep, it’s got a dome.
- Can’t forget about the Detroit Lions. They play in Ford Field, up there in Detroit. Another dome! They need it up there, gets cold, you know.
- Up in Minneapolis, the Vikings got US Bank Stadium. That one’s a big ol’ dome, real impressive looking.
- Then you go down south to Atlanta, where the Falcons play in Mercedes Benz Stadium. Another fancy dome, they got them retractable roofs now, ain’t that somethin’?
- And of course, you got the New Orleans Saints in the Caesars Superdome. That one’s been around a while, a real classic dome. They sure do need it down there, what with all that rain.
- Last but not least, out in Arizona, the Cardinals play at State Farm Stadium in Glendale. Another one with a fancy roof, keeps the sun off them fans, I guess. That desert sun can be brutal.
So there you have it, eight teams with domed stadiums. That leaves a whole bunch of teams playin’ outside in the wind and the rain and the snow, bless their hearts. Some stadiums have retractable roofs, kinda like a convertible, which is pretty neat. But we are talking domes here.
Now, some folks might say, “What about AT&T Stadium?” Well, that one is nice, real nice, built back in 2009 they tell me, but it ain’t a true dome. It’s got a roof, sure, but it ain’t the same as a real dome stadium like them others I mentioned. It’s big though, real big.
And speaking of big, the biggest stadium in the whole NFL, they tell me, is MetLife Stadium over there in New Jersey. Holds a whole mess of people, 82,500 of ’em! But that ain’t a dome, no sir. That’s where the Giants and the Jets play.
You know, it all started way back in 1965 with that Houston Astrodome. That was the first domed sports stadium in the world! The Houston Oilers played there, before they went off and became the Tennessee Titans. That Astrodome, that was somethin’ else. Started a whole trend, I guess.
So, to recap, there are 30 NFL stadiums in total but just 8 of them are proper domed stadiums as of the now. Eight teams playing indoors, nice and cozy, no matter the weather. The rest of them, well, they just gotta tough it out, I reckon. Makes for some interesting games though, especially when it starts snowin’!
