Okay, so I’ve always been curious about tennis courts. I mean, you see them everywhere, right? But I never really thought about how big they actually are. So, the other day I decided to find out – how many square feet is a tennis court?
First things first, I grabbed my trusty measuring tape. I figured the easiest way to get the answer was to just measure one myself. Luckily, there’s a public tennis court just down the street from my place.

I headed over there, measuring tape in hand, feeling a little silly, to be honest. I started by measuring the length of the court. I walked from one end to the other, carefully marking the start and end points. It was a bit of a walk, let me tell you! After a few minutes, I got the length.
Then came the width. Same deal – I measured from one side of the court to the other. This was definitely shorter than the length, which made sense.
With those two numbers, I just had to do a little math. You know, basic stuff – length times width equals area. I whipped out my phone calculator (because who does long multiplication in their head anymore?) and punched in the numbers.
- Length: 78 feet (That’s what I measured, give or take a few inches. My measuring skills are not very accurate, I have to say)
- Width: 36 feet (This is for a doubles court, which is the standard, I think)
The Calculation
So, 78 feet multiplied by 36 feet equals… drumroll please… 2,808 square feet! That’s the area of the tennis court I measured.
But then I thought, “Is this right? Is this the standard size?” So, I did a quick search on the internet when I got back home. And guess what? It turns out the official size is pretty close to what I measured! Apparently, regulation courts can vary ever so slightly, but they are generally right around that size. A single’s court is a little bit narrower.

So, there you have it! That’s how I figured out the size of a tennis court. It was a fun little experiment, and now I know a bit more about something I’d always wondered about. Maybe next time I’ll try to measure a basketball court or something.
