Well, let me tell you, I heard folks talkin’ ’bout them NBA halftime performers, you know, them folks dancin’ and jumpin’ around while the basketball players restin’ up. And they was wonderin’ how much money them performers make. It got me thinkin’, too.
Them games, they be on the TV all the time. My old eyes ain’t what they used to be, but I can still see them fancy shows they put on at halftime. It ain’t like back in my day when we just sat around and talked durin’ breaks. Now they got all sorts of entertainment.

I reckon it’s a big deal to be one of them NBA halftime performers. It’s the big leagues, you know! And everybody watchin’ on the television. Must be excitin’ but also kinda scary, all them people watchin’ ya.
So, how much do they make? That’s the big question, ain’t it? Some folks say they don’t get no paycheck, no sir. They say the big shots, the NBA, they pay for all the fancy stuff, like the lights and the costumes and all that. That must cost a whole heap of money!
- The NBA, they pay for the show, not the people dancin’.
- It’s a big show, with lots of lights and music.
- Lots of people watch them NBA games.
But some people told me that those performers is just there for the show, to get themselves seen. They said it is because it helps them get more famous. Then they can make more money later. So maybe it all works out in the end, I guess.
I heard some fella called Red Panda, she only gets about $3500 each time. Now that ain’t nothin’ to sneeze at, but it ain’t millions either. I wonder if the others, the ones doin’ stuff durin’ timeouts, if they get paid the same? It’s all a big mystery to me.
Now, them basketball games, they got four parts, they call ’em quarters. And between the second and third one, that’s when they have the halftime. It’s usually about 15 minutes, long enough for folks to stretch their legs and get a snack. It is not too long and not too short. It just enough.

And durin’ that time, them NBA halftime performers, they put on a show. They dance and they sing, and sometimes they do tricks. It’s all very excitin’ to watch, even for an old lady like me.
They say these shows, they get watched by more people than just about anything else on TV. That’s a lot of eyeballs! And that’s why them big stars, like that Beyonce and The Weeknd, they want to do it. They is famous already, but to be on that big stage, it is like the top of the mountain. And everyone wants to be the top, right?
So even though they might not get a big paycheck right then and there, they get somethin’ else just as valuable. They get seen. And in this world, bein’ seen is worth a whole lot. It is like the gold. It is valuable.
Now, I also heard somethin’ ’bout them DJs, the ones playin’ the music. They say they make ’round $47. I don’t know if that’s for the whole game or just for each time they play a song. It ain’t much, but it’s somethin’. It is better than nothing. I always think something is better than nothing.
So, it’s all a bit confusin’, ain’t it? NBA halftime performers, some get paid somethin’, some get paid nothin’, but they all get somethin’ out of it. And that somethin’ is the chance to be seen by millions of people. And that’s worth more than all the money in the world, at least to some folks. It is a chance and it is very rare. It is difficult to get such a chance.

- Some performers get a little money, some don’t.
- Being seen by lots of people is very important.
- It’s a chance to be famous, and that’s a big deal.
I guess that’s just the way it is these days. It ain’t always about the money you get right now, it’s about the money you might get later. It’s all about lookin’ to the future, I reckon. It is like planting a seed. You need to wait for it to grow up. But if you wait, you can get a big tree.
And for them NBA halftime performers, that future is lookin’ pretty bright, even if their pockets ain’t full right now. They’re plantin’ them seeds, and one day, they’re gonna be harvestin’ a whole lot of money. Or at least, that’s what I hear folks sayin’.
