So, I was watching the game last night, you know, just chilling on the couch, and it got me thinking – how much do those NFL commentators actually make? I mean, they’re always there, every game, rain or shine, talking about football. Must be a sweet gig, right?
So, I grabbed my laptop and started digging. First, I just did a quick search to get a general idea. I typed in something like “NFL commentator salaries” and boom, tons of articles popped up. Skimmed through a couple, and it looked like the big names are pulling in some serious cash. We’re talking over $1 million a season. Can you believe that? For talking about football!

But then I got curious about the specifics. I wanted names, numbers, the whole deal. So I started looking for articles that listed the top earners. Found one that had a top-five list. Apparently, some guy named Troy Aikman, who used to be a quarterback, is now a commentator and he’s making bank.
- Checked out a few more articles to see if the numbers matched up.
- Most of them were saying the same thing – the top guys are making millions.
- Found out that some of these commentators also do college games and other sports, so they’re raking it in from multiple sources.
Then I wanted to see what the average commentator makes. I found some info about hourly rates. It said the average was around $29.59 an hour, which isn’t too shabby. I figured that those were the guys who aren’t the big stars, maybe just starting out or doing smaller games. It also said the information was gathered from employees, job postings, etc.
Further Research
I went a bit deeper and checked out information on specific networks. Like, there’s this guy Tony Romo who works for CBS, and apparently, he signed a massive deal a few years back that’s paying him $17.5 million a season. That’s insane! I read that he got a lot of praise for his commentary style, so I guess he’s worth it.
One article even mentioned that the top NFL announcers make more than most of the players, except for the really big-name players, of course. Makes sense, I guess. They’re a big part of the whole NFL experience.
Finally, I stumbled upon a salary range for “Fantasy Football Analysts.” Apparently, those guys can make anywhere from around $65,928 to $82,045 a year. Not as much as the big-time commentators, but still a decent living, especially if you love football.

So yeah, that’s what I found out about how much NFL commentators get paid. It’s a pretty wide range, from tens of thousands to millions, depending on experience, popularity, and the network they work for. It definitely made me look at those guys on TV a little differently!
