Okay, folks, let’s dive into my little art adventure today. I wanted to figure out “how to draw NFL players,”.So I grabbed my sketchbook and pencils, and got to work.
Getting Started: The Basic Shapes
First things first, I started with really basic shapes. I mean, super basic. Think stick figures, but a bit chunkier. I drew a circle for the head, a sort of oval for the torso, and then just lines for the arms and legs. The idea was just to get the general proportions down. No details, just the overall structure.

I used light, sketchy lines at this stage. That way, it’s easy to erase and adjust things. I wasn’t aiming for perfection, just a rough idea of where everything goes.
Building Up the Forms
Once I had the stick figure-ish thing going, I started to add some volume. I turned those lines for limbs into more cylinder-like shapes. I added some bulk to the torso, trying to capture that athletic build NFL players have. I kept thinking “big shoulders, strong legs.”
- Shoulders: Made them wide and round.
- Chest: Gave it a bit of a barrel shape.
- Legs: Thick and muscular, especially the thighs.
Adding the Details: Helmet and Pads
Now for the fun part – the gear! I started with the helmet. I drew a sort of rounded shape on top of the head circle, making sure to add the face mask. It took a few tries to get it looking right. I erased a lot at this point!
Then I moved on to the shoulder pads. These are pretty bulky and angular, so I focused on getting those sharp lines and the overall “V” shape they create. I sketched in the rest of the uniform – the jersey, the pants, the cleats. Again, lots of erasing and adjusting.
Refining and Inking
Once I was happy with the pencil sketch, I took a deep breath and started inking. I used a fine-liner pen for this, going slowly and carefully over the lines I wanted to keep. This is where the drawing really starts to come to life.

After the inking was done, I carefully erased all the pencil lines. It’s always satisfying to see the clean, crisp lines underneath.
Final Touches
Finally,I do some clean job.I used a thicker pen to add some shadows and depth, making the drawing look more three-dimensional.
And that’s it! My attempt at drawing an NFL player. It’s not perfect, but I learned a lot along the way. It’s all about practice, practice, practice. I’ll definitely be trying this again!
