So, I finally made it to the Silverstone F1 race this year! I’ve been wanting to go for ages, and let me tell you, it was quite the journey getting there from London. I thought I’d share my experience, might help some of you out if you’re planning a trip.
First off, I started looking into the cheapest way to get there, because, let’s be honest, F1 tickets themselves are pricey enough. Driving seemed like a good shout – only around £18-27 apparently and just over an hour’s drive. But then, where would I park? And the traffic? I heard some horror stories. Plus, after a day at the races, I doubt I’d want to drive back. No way.

Then I saw someone mention something about taking a train and then a taxi. That sounded like it could be quicker, but also a lot more expensive. I’m talking about £45 – £120! I wanted to get there fast, but not that much.
So, trains. That seemed like the most sensible option. I found out that the closest station to the circuit is Wolverton, which is about 10 miles away. There are direct trains from London Euston, so that was easy enough. I also saw that Banbury station was an option and also under 13 miles (20km) from the race track.
I decided to hop on a train to Milton Keynes in the end, which is also pretty close, and took less than an hour. Perfect! I pre-booked my ticket online to save a few quid.
Once I got to Milton Keynes, it was time to figure out how to get to the actual circuit. I knew there were buses, but I wasn’t sure about the schedules or where exactly they stopped. I’d heard they drop you right at the circuit, but I didn’t have the details. There was mention of a bus service by MegaBus from major cities and towns which seemed to offer a stress-free way to travel. But still didn’t solve my problem here.
So, I ended up grabbing an Uber. It wasn’t too bad, cost-wise, and it dropped me right at the entrance. No messing about. If you are planning on doing this, make sure to give yourself at least an hour to get there before the race or event you’re seeing, as you don’t want to be late!

My Recommendations
- Book your train tickets in advance. Especially if you’re going on a race weekend, they’re going to be busy.
- Consider an Uber or taxi from the station. It’s the easiest way to get to the circuit, especially if you’re not familiar with the area.
- Look into bus options if you’re on a tight budget. Just do your research beforehand so you know where to go and when.
- If you get stuck, ask someone! I found that people were generally pretty helpful when I needed directions.
- Enjoy the race! It’s an amazing experience, even if the journey to get there can be a bit of an adventure in itself.
In the end, it all worked out. Getting to Silverstone was a bit of a mission, but totally worth it. If you’re an F1 fan, you gotta go at least once. Just make sure to plan ahead and you’ll have a blast!
