This here thing, folks always askin’, is that boxing thing bigger than that MMA, mixed martial arts, they call it? Well, I tell ya, it’s like askin’ if taters are better than corn. Both fill ya up, but some folks just like one more than the other, ya know?
Now, that boxing, it’s been around a long time. My grandpappy used to listen to it on the radio, back when we didn’t even have a TV. Said it was the cat’s meow. Lots of folks, they love that boxing. They get all dressed up, go to them big fights, make a whole night of it. It’s a big deal, that boxing is. They say it’s the fourth most popular sport for the young’uns, after that football, and I guess two others. They even follow boxing on Google, but the search term of UFC is much bigger. Seems like more young people watch UFC now.
This MMA, though, it’s newer. Like them newfangled tractors, all shiny and with all them buttons. It’s got all sorts of fightin’ in it, not just punchin’. They kick, they wrestle, they do all sorts of things in that MMA. Some folks, especially them younger ones, they really like that MMA. They say it’s more excitin’. More goin’ on.
I seen them both on the TV. The boxing, it’s just two fellas punchin’ each other. Sometimes it gets real excitin’, when one fella gets knocked down. But sometimes, it’s just a lot of dancin’ around. That MMA, though, there’s always somethin’ happenin’. Like a chicken with its head cut off, they’re all over the place!
Now, which one’s more popular? Well, that’s a tough one. Like countin’ chickens ‘fore they hatch. Right now, seems like more folks still like that boxing. It’s like an old, comfy shoe. You know what you’re gettin’. But that MMA, it’s gainin’ on it. Like a weed in the garden, it’s growin’ fast. It is also a combat sport and many people love it.
- That UFC thing, you know, Ultimate Fighting Championship they call it, on Google thingy, more people search for that than boxing. Worldwide, they say.
- In America, UFC and boxing are neck and neck, like two horses in a race.
- But down in South America, I don’t know what they’re doin’ down there.
I reckon it all depends on what you like. Some folks like that old-timey boxing. Some folks like that newfangled MMA. Just like some folks like pie, and some folks like cake. They all like going to the big fights, though. They say the big fights, for boxing and that MMA, they’re social events. Whatever that means. Folks get together, have a good time. I guess that’s what matters.
Me? I don’t know. I think I like them both. Boxing is good for a nice, calm evenin’. MMA is good when you need a little somethin’ to wake ya up. That MMA will give ya a good jolt! It can beat boxing in no time.
But who’s gonna win in the long run? That’s like askin’ which rooster’s gonna crow the loudest. Only time will tell. But I tell ya what, that MMA, it’s comin’ up fast. It’s gonna be a real horse race, I reckon. And them big fight nights, well, they’re like a county fair. Everyone’s there, havin’ a good time, no matter which one they’re watchin’. Boxing and MMA, they are both popular. Hard to say which one is more popular.
So, is boxing more popular than MMA? Well, maybe today it is. But tomorrow? That’s a whole other ball of yarn. That MMA is somethin’ else. It’s like nothin’ I ever seen before. But them boxing fellas, they’ve been around a long time. They ain’t goin’ down without a fight, that’s for sure! It’s a good time to watch them fights, I reckon. Lots of excitement, no matter which one you choose.
