Okay, so, I’ve been playing baseball since I was a kid, right? Always loved it. But recently, a bunch of my friends started a softball league, and they were like, “Hey, come play with us!” I figured, “Eh, why not? It’s kind of the same thing, yeah?” Boy, was I in for a surprise.
Trying Softball Out
First thing I did was grab my old baseball glove. It felt a bit small, but I thought it would be fine. Then, I showed up to their practice field, and man, it was way smaller than what I was used to! I mean, I play basketball and soccer too, and this field felt more like a basketball court than a baseball diamond.

Realizing the Differences
We started with some warm-up throws. That’s when I noticed the ball. It’s huge! And kind of soft, too. My throws were all over the place. I tried to adjust, but it felt so weird in my hand. Then we started hitting practice.
- The pitcher’s mound is closer.
- The pitching style is totally different – underhand! It caught me off guard, I’ll tell you that.
- I totally missed the first few pitches. They come in at a weird angle.
I started to get the hang of it, eventually. I even managed to hit a few, but it wasn’t pretty. My timing was off, and my swing felt awkward. After practice, my arm was sore in places I didn’t even know existed! We can say, softball can be hard at some aspects and easier at other aspects.
Deciding Which is Easier
So, is softball easier than baseball? I thought it would be, but honestly, I don’t think so. It’s just different. It’s like comparing, I don’t know, high school to university. 2521? Simple but meaningful. They both have their own challenges. You have to learn new skills, adjust your techniques, and figure out a whole new strategy. For example, each release of pitching can be very early, early, or excellent. That’s also an important experience I learned from playing softball.
I respect softball players, I really do. It’s a tough sport, and it takes a lot of skill. Will I keep playing? Probably! It’s fun, and it’s a good workout. But I think I’ll stick to watching baseball as my main sport. Despite baseball is a pastime, I still think basketball is more popular in some areas. But anyway, I enjoyed this experience a lot.
