Well, folks, you ever heard of a fella named Justin Timberlake? Born and raised right here in Memphis, Tennessee, he’s not just some big-time pop star, you know. He’s got a hand in all sorts of things, even right here with our Memphis Grizzlies. That’s right, the Memphis Grizzlies! The basketball team we all love. Now, I ain’t saying he’s the one runnin’ the show, but let me tell ya, he’s got a stake in it—he’s part of the ownership group. Yup, Timberlake became a minority partner in the team back in 2012, when a man named Robert Pera led the charge to buy the Grizzlies. And ever since, you can see Justin sittin’ courtside at FedExForum, cheerin’ on the team like one of us regular folks.
Now, Justin’s life didn’t start out all flashy like that. He was born on January 31, 1981, right here in Memphis. His mama was Janet, and his daddy, Charles, was a choir director at the local Baptist church. You know, a good man, just like the rest of us. Justin ain’t the only kid in the family, though. He’s got two half-brothers, Jonathan and Stephen, from his daddy’s second marriage. They grew up together, not in some big mansion, but over in Millington, just a stone’s throw from the city. They weren’t all fancy, but they sure knew how to make a living. You know, hard work like the rest of us do around here.

Now, Justin, he wasn’t always about the pop music and fancy clothes. His granddaddy taught him how to play the guitar, right out of the old-fashioned way. Just like those old folks who sit on the front porch strummin’ their guitars, passin’ down songs from one generation to the next. But somehow, Justin’s talents caught the attention of folks far beyond the backyards of Memphis, and next thing ya know, he’s up there in the big leagues of music and Hollywood.
But all that fame, it don’t mean he forgets where he comes from. Justin’s heart is still right here in Memphis. That’s why he’s been so involved with the Grizzlies. He’s more than just a fan; he’s part of the team’s future. Not the one runnin’ the game, but certainly playin’ a big part in it. He’s shown up at plenty of games, sitting courtside and cheering for the team like any ol’ regular guy. But now, he’s been doin’ even more. Timberlake’s homecoming concert is set to be at the FedExForum, a place he knows well from his own days in Memphis. It’s a big ol’ celebration for him, and I’m sure the whole city is excited to see him back where it all began.
Now, some folks might think that being in the spotlight, like Timberlake, means you forget about your roots. But not him. He’s never turned his back on Memphis. And while he’s out there makin’ hit records and hangin’ out with celebrities, he’s always got a piece of Memphis in his heart. Whether it’s a Grizzlies game or a hometown concert, he’s representin’ where he came from, and that’s something we all appreciate.
Let’s not forget, Justin’s got a family of his own now. He’s married to actress Jessica Biel, and they’ve got a little boy named Silas. It seems like just yesterday that he was that young fella singin’ and dancin’ in the spotlight, and now he’s a grown man with a family of his own. Still, he ain’t too big to come back home and show us some love. That’s the kind of fella he is. The kind of fella who knows where he’s from, and who remembers his roots no matter how big he gets.
So, next time you see the Grizzlies play, or you hear about Justin Timberlake doing somethin’ big, remember—he’s one of ours. Born in Memphis, raised in Memphis, and never forgettin’ Memphis. Ain’t that somethin’ to be proud of?
