Well, let me tell ya, folks, somethin’ big’s been happenin’ over there at that big ol’ football place in Kansas. The David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium, it ain’t what it used to be no more. They’ve been knockin’ it down bit by bit for the last few months, and now, that old stadium is nothin’ but a pile of rubble.
You see, this here stadium, it’s been around a long time. They built it for the University of Kansas folks a long time ago, and it was meant to honor them soldiers who fought in wars. I reckon you could say it was a bit of a memorial. They called it the Memorial Stadium, ya know? Well, that was way back in the 1920s, and it’s seen a lot of football games since then. But now, it’s time for a big change, and they decided to tear the whole thing down.

Started back in the fall of 2023, I reckon, and folks been watchin’ from a distance as that big ol’ demolition crew started rippin’ things apart. I saw it on the news a few times. They were takin’ down those old seats, some of ‘em lookin’ like they’d been there since the first football game was played there! I tell ya, that stadium had been through a lot. It had its good days and bad, but now it’s makin’ way for somethin’ brand new.
Back on January 10th, 2024, they wrapped up the whole takin’-down thing. Took ‘em almost two months, but now the place is all cleared out. It’s like a fresh start for the folks at the University of Kansas and for the Kansas Jayhawks football team. They’ve been wantin’ to fix that ol’ place for years, and now they’re finally gettin’ their chance. It’s gonna be somethin’ special when they finish it up, I reckon.
Now, let me tell ya, the new stadium is gonna be somethin’ real fancy. The plans they got show that it’s gonna be a multi-million dollar deal. And not just a little bit of work, either. It’s gonna take years! Yep, years, folks! But when it’s all done, it’s gonna be somethin’ to see, that’s for sure. They’re callin’ it a renovation, but I think it might end up lookin’ like a brand new stadium altogether.
But ya know, as much as they’re workin’ on this new stadium, it ain’t all bad to remember the old one. That ol’ stadium saw a lotta history. A lotta games. A lotta folks sittin’ in those bleachers, cheerin’ on their team. The Jayhawks fans, they loved that place like a second home. I’m sure there’ll be some folks missin’ it. Ain’t no doubt ‘bout that. But change is the way of the world, ain’t it?
The folks at the University of Kansas, they sure got a big job ahead of ‘em. It’s not just about takin’ down the old place, but buildin’ up somethin’ better. Somethin’ that’s gonna bring in more folks, more money, and even more football games! I reckon this new stadium will be ready by 2025, ‘cause they’ve already been talkin’ ‘bout that. They’re gonna open up that new stadium with a big ol’ game against Fresno State on August 23rd, 2025. You can bet your boots there’s gonna be a whole lotta people showin’ up for that one!

So, it’s gonna be a while ‘til we see the finished product, but folks are already excited. I imagine that when it’s all said and done, this new stadium will be a big ol’ pride and joy for Kansas folks everywhere. They’ll have all the modern comforts, the big fancy seats, and plenty of room for more fans to come cheer on the Jayhawks.
Change can be hard, sure enough. But sometimes, it’s just what needs to happen. And I reckon the folks at the University of Kansas are gonna be mighty proud of what they’ve got when the job’s all finished. They’ve been waitin’ a long time for this, and now it’s finally comin’ to life. So, here’s hopin’ the new stadium brings in lots of good times and a whole lotta wins for that football team!
