Alright, so I wanted to relive my childhood a bit and decided to play some Backyard Baseball. It’s not as easy as just picking up a bat and a ball like in the good old days, but I figured it out.
First, I dug around to find out where I could even play this game. I remembered it was a computer game, but they don’t really make ’em like that anymore. Turns out, it’s an oldie but a goodie. I found some info saying that it was made by Humongous Entertainment and got released way back in ’97 for Mac and Windows.

So, I started looking for ways to play it on my modern devices. Got excited when I saw it mentioned that there’s a version on Steam! I grabbed that one and installed it. Felt like a kid again seeing those familiar characters.
- Installed the game from Steam.
- Launched it and picked my team.
- Played a few games, and it was a blast from the past!
I also found out that there are versions for other consoles like Game Boy Advance, PlayStation 2, GameCube, and even Wii. And get this – there’s even a way to play it on your iPad or iPod touch if you have iOS 9.0 or later! I only tried the Steam version though.
While I was at it, I stumbled upon some project that lets you play the 2001 version of Backyard Baseball online, just like how it was back in the day. You can play with friends or other random people. You register your coach name and then you can play online, that’s pretty cool. I haven’t tried that yet, but it sounds like a fun time.
Playing the game itself?
It’s simple, man. Just gotta pick your players, swing that bat, and run those bases. Easy peasy. If you’re playing the old-school way in your actual backyard, you just need a bat, a ball, and some friends. Maybe some makeshift bases.
Anyway, that’s how I got my Backyard Baseball fix. It was a fun little trip down memory lane. Now I’m off to hit some dingers!
