Okay, so today I decided to mess around with this “a frey tennis” thing. I’d heard some buzz about it, and, well, I’m always up for trying something new. Honestly, I wasn’t even sure what to expect. It sounded kinda…out there.
Getting Started
First things first, I needed to figure out what I even needed. It’s not like you walk into a store and ask for “a frey tennis, please.” So I did what anyone would do – I hit the internet. Typed in a few searches, scrolled through some pretty weird-looking results, and finally found a couple of pages that seemed to have a clue.
Turns out, it’s more of a DIY project. You gotta gather some stuff, which, thankfully, wasn’t too hard to find:
- Some old tennis balls. I had a bucket of these in the garage. My dog loves ’em, but I figured he could spare a few.
- String. Just regular, sturdy string. I used some leftover twine I had from gardening.
- Something to hang it from. I ended up using a sturdy branch in my backyard.
Putting It All Together
This is where it got a little tricky. The instructions I found were, let’s just say, not super clear. It involved a lot of tying knots, wrapping string around the tennis balls, and generally trying to make something that resembled a…well, I’m still not entirely sure what it’s supposed to resemble.
I started by tying a long piece of string to the branch. Then, I took a tennis ball and started wrapping the string around it, kind of like making a yarn ball, but messier. The idea, I think, is to create a sort of network of strings connecting the balls.
I repeated this with a few more tennis balls, spacing them out along the main string. I ended up with this…contraption…hanging from the branch. It looked pretty strange, to be honest. A bunch of tennis balls dangling at different heights, connected by a web of string.
The “Playing” Part
Okay, so “playing” might be a strong word. It’s not exactly tennis, and it’s definitely not a game with clear rules. I think the whole point is just to…interact with it. Bat the balls around, watch them swing, see how the strings move.

I spent a good twenty minutes just smacking the balls around. They bounced off each other, the strings got tangled, and the whole thing swayed back and forth. It was…surprisingly relaxing. Kind of meditative, in a weird way. Like a kinetic sculpture you can mess with.
My dog was very interested, by the way. He kept trying to grab the balls, which added an extra layer of chaos to the whole thing. He approved.
It might be something to get you moving a bit, get the blood flowing. Get your heart beating faster.
Final Thoughts
So, would I recommend “a frey tennis”? Honestly, I don’t know. It’s definitely…different. It’s not going to replace actual tennis, or any other sport, for that matter. But it was a fun little project, and it gave me something to do on a slow afternoon. If you’re looking for something weird and slightly pointless to mess around with, give it a try. Just don’t expect a polished, professional-looking result. Embrace the chaos!
