Okay, so I’ve always been a huge NBA fan, and one thing that always kinda confused me was the whole playoff seeding thing. Like, do they reseed after each round? I’ve heard different things from different people, so I decided to finally figure it out myself, once and for all.
First, I jumped on Google. You know, the usual. Typed in “does NBA reseed in playoffs” and hit enter. I scrolled through a bunch of articles, some forum posts, and even some YouTube videos. It was a bit of a mess, honestly. Some stuff was outdated, some was just plain wrong. I was begining to get totally confused.

Then, I remembered the official NBA website. Duh! Why didn’t I just go there first? So, I navigated to * and started poking around. I found their “How it Works” section for the playoffs, and there it was, plain as day.
My findings:
- The NBA does NOT reseed in the playoffs.
- Teams are placed into a fixed bracket.
- The bracket is determined by their regular-season record.
- That bracket stays the same throughout the entire playoffs.
- So, the team with the best record in each conference always gets home-court advantage in their matchups.
Basically, they set the bracket at the beginning, and that’s it. No changes, no reseeding, no matter what happens in the earlier rounds. It’s all based on how you did in the regular season. Makes sense, I guess. Rewards the teams that grinded it out for the whole 82 games.
So, there you have it. My little deep dive into NBA playoff seeding. I feel way more informed now, and hopefully, this helps some other confused fans out there too!
