Okay, so the other day, I was watching an NFL game with a buddy, and we got into this debate about how long the breaks between quarters are. I mean, I knew there was a break, but I honestly couldn’t remember exactly how long it was. We had a friendly bet going, so I needed to figure this out – and fast!
First, I grabbed my phone and did a quick search. I found some varying information, it was all a little confusing, to be honest. Some places said one thing, others said something else. I needed something definitive.

Digging Deeper
So, I decided to go straight to the source. you know. Their official rulebook. That seemed like the most reliable place to get the real answer.
After some digging, I found what I was looking for! I learned the timing and wanted share my finds:
- Between the first and second quarters (and the third and fourth), the break is just 2 minutes and 15 seconds.
- Between the second and third quarter which is halftime, It’s way longer than the small break, it is 13 minutes.
I felt much better and shared my findings, It’s always a good feeling when I can share my first hand practice.
